Dog smells of vinegar

I have a 15yr old small breed dog. In the last week all I can smell on her is vinegar. It's a strong ammonia vinegary smell. I have cleaned her ears, given her a bath and she still smells awful.

Does anyone have any experience with this? What could be causing it? She's clean. She's not covered in wee for sure. I'm pretty sure it's not coming from her ears either.

Could it be a UTI ?

Could it be a UTI ?

How would I find out? Vet I guess? She has been having increasing problems with weeing in the house if we don't let her out in time. We just kind of chalked that up to her being old.

Can you collect a sample from her and drop it into the vet ? I've used a small bowl in the past, when she squatted I just shoved it under her. The joys!

They'd also be able to check for diabetes.

I e just googled UTI symptoms in dogs. I don't think any of these particular stand out as symptoms with her aside from the loss of bladder control.

Signs of a urinary infection in a dog include:
• Passing urine more frequently than usual, sometimes only passing a small amount
• Drinking more than usual
• Dribbling of urine/loss of bladder control — often seen as accidents in the house
• Blood in the urine
• A strong smell to the urine
• Pain on urinating — straining and sometimes even crying out
• Licking the area more than usual after urination

Definitely take her for a vet check. Take a urine sample as well if you can get one - we have an old ladle we use for this.

If not a uti, maybe diabetes, that can make them smell different.

My son’s dog has an ongoing problem with his anal glands. I know, who even knew that was a thing. But apparently it’s fairly common for them to become blocked. They had repeated visits to the vet during the first year and the vet basically gave the area a “digital massage” to empty the blocked glands which are situated next to the dog’s exit hole. The vet demonstrated how to easily do it themselves. Signs that it needs done are the dog excessively licking its butt or skidding round the floor on its bum.

When it’s about to or has just popped spontaneously there is a very distinctive smell, sort of fishy/vinegary. A quick clean with a wet wipe deals with it when that happens .

Is she well in herself?

I can smell sickness on my child and it's a vinegary smell to me, it's usually when she's coming down with a virus. I can smell it before she gets a temperature and know that it's coming, it's not her breath or a specific body part, more like it's just emanating from her skin all over.
