Does a kibble exist that is...

  • soft (for a dog with no teeth)
  • small (said dog is very small)
  • grain free

Struggling to find one 😊

If anyone has any suggestions that would be helpful.

Have you tried canagan, not cheap but grain free, small and very good quality

lemons44 · 20/11/2022 18:28

Oh I should also mention the reason we are looking for kibble and not wet food is that we want something that can be picked at and not have to be consumed in one sitting.

I've been looking at this www.naturesvariety.co.uk/freeze-dried supposed to be freeze dried raw food. Can be kept a room temp and treated like kibble.

ladygindiva · 20/11/2022 18:32

My tiny jr chihuahua has had most of his teeth removed, and he was never keen on kibble but he loves and manages to eat virbac. It's available online, he has the senior toy/small variety.

www.healthyk9.co.uk/shop/

I get the toy dog kibble from here which is small. It's not soft but I put water on it.

It's half a cm.

Newusernames · 20/11/2022 18:33

Eden semi moist. Our dog loves it and rates highly for nutrition.

sueelleker · 20/11/2022 18:36

Orijen is excellent (if expensive) and they've just brought out a Small Breeds kibble. www.orijenpetfoods.co.uk/product/orijen-small-breed/#tab-ingredients

My dog loves Wolfworthy. She’s a Labrador sized rescue and prefers small kibble. You can dampen it if necessary; she’s doing very well on it, no waste at all!

GuyFawkesDay · 20/11/2022 18:46

Eden semi moist definitely!! Really good stuff

CoffeandTiaMaria · 20/11/2022 18:46

You can get samples from kibble manufacturers, try some out. I googled free samples and was amazed at the selection available. Some charge postage but I ended up with about a dozen different ones to try.

lemons44 · 20/11/2022 18:46

Oh wow so many great suggestions!

I have contacted Canagan and natures valley to see if they sell samples and I have just bought a £5 sample pack of the Eden semi moist food to see how my dog likes it, it has a little sample of each flavour to try. He is a fussy eater so better to try him before I buy a big bag of anything!

Looking at the other suggestions now 😊

Royal Canine is tiny. And grain free, I think.

Natty13 · 20/11/2022 18:52

If the suggested options don't work another alternative is some hot water from the kettle on the kibble. By the time it's cool it's nice and soft. My dog goes through phases of refusing her food for days and this is the only day I can get her to eat it

GuyFawkesDay · 21/11/2022 15:17

Royal Canin is very definitely NOT grain free.

lipstickwoman · 21/11/2022 15:41

I soften Burns with hot water, but also freeze gravy in small pots every time I make it. (Just meat juices and veg water)

Yes the old girl is a bit spoilt

ElephantInTheKitchen · 21/11/2022 16:50

Wolf of Wilderness Soft is grain free. 14-16mm kibble size though so it depends on your definition of small.

Try platinum but not sure how soft it is

bingohandjob · 23/11/2022 22:22

We use Markus Mühle or Guru (currently on Guru) and think you can get trial sizes. You can add warm water to soften it/soak it - we did this when ours was a pup to fill Kongs as it creates a wet style food consistency.

Didiplanthis · 23/11/2022 22:26

I was going to suggest natures variety freeze dried as well. We wanted to feed kibble but the princess was too delicate to chew hard bits 🙄... no issues with teeth just too much like hard work...

biggerbetterfasterstronger · 23/11/2022 22:34

Wilson’s dog food
order the 6 x sample packs, excellent quality and easy to break ip

Whenisthisgoingtoend · 23/11/2022 22:48

I’m a vet and suggest any food you try needs to be for at last a week to check how much they eat and what their poops are like.

I’ve treated many dogs with stomach upsets mainly due to food they eat.

What age is your dog? Why are you wanting to change their feeding regime now?
Have you asked your vets advice on this?
