Also, insurance for an older dog , am struggling to get any that will cover up to a decent amount per year

I think you will struggle to get good insurance at that age and if you do find good cover it will be very expensive . Our patterdale x has bilateral luxating patella and he’s on yumove with his tea and has canine joint right in his breakfast which seems to work for him as he’s extremely active .

After lots of trials we found Riaflex Joint Plus alongside their Green Lipped Mussel, good quality omega 3, turmeric to be the best combination for supporting my elderly dog’s joints. It took a couple of months on the combination but the different in his comfort and movement was impressive considering his arthritis.

Are they already insured? You will probably need to stick with your original insurer, as other companies will exclude anything that they’ve ever been treated for from the policy. Unfortunately all the insurance companies hike the policy cost and excess when they start to age, often from the age of 8. If it’s a first time policy, imo, PetPlan is the best for not increasing the premiums as a result of claims, but their policies are more expensive to begin with. I would still always go with them personally, as they are reliable, pay up quickly without any hassle and will work directly with vets.

My 16 year old toy poodle is on youmove and it’s made a big difference to his mobility.

We use Riaflex with good results

Thanks, I've ordered some yumove to try,

yes, always been insured, never been ill before!

His insurance will only cover up up to 1000 per condition per year, I clamed 320 for emergency appt, which was out of hours, and meds ( he suddenly collapsed his back end, both knees ) I got back 97 after there excess, 20% extra due to his age and they have a limit of 100 for an emergency out of hours appt.

seems poor.

I'll give them a bell and see if I can up premiums to get more cover I guess.

My older dog is on Norton joint supplement. I looked at the ingredients of Yumove and compared them. Jointaid used to work out half the price of Yumove, with buy two get third free, but that offer doesn't seem to be around now.

My 11 year old lurcher is doing really well on YouMove Plus (for older dogs).
