Kennel cough vaccine - kennel cough symptoms

Hi, so almost two weeks ago I took my 1 yr old lab for her booster which un be known included the kennel cough vaccine.

Exactly a week later she started coughing, seemed like she had something stuck and was sick a couple of time and continued with a cough and gagging. On Sunday aftrr her being up all night I took her to the emergency vet as I was concerned she had eaten something and it was stuck.
She had xrays, they couldn't find anything stuck but said she had an enlarged oesophagus which they are following up. She said she's not got kennel cough and is fine to mix with other dogs.

So 3 days later my 10yr old lab has come down with what sounds like kennel cough. Never had it before but never had them vaccinated against it.

Is there a possibility that the kennel cough vaccine has actually given my younger lab kennel cough and its has now infected my older lab?.

I've tried to read up on it but shes hasn't been anywhere where she would pick it. It just seems a coincidence to me

I actually just went for boosters without even realising that the kennel cough vaccine was included. I always thought that was an extra vaccine if needed.

Did the vet not tell you that the Kennel Cough vaccine is live and can therefore be shed for several weeks after being given?

No she didn't. Tbh I didn't even know she had given her the vaccine until I went to pay.
How does that work when mixing with other dogs, are they contagious then? X

Technically yes, which is get boarding kennels and daycares often require a gap between vaccination and the dog staying to be on the safe side.

Either way if your dogs are showing symptoms you need to keep them home until they've been symptom-free for at least teb days.

Although a live vaccine it is highly unlikely to spread kennel cough to another animal.

The gap required by boarding kennels and the vaccination is to ensure that the vaccine is working not to prevent spread.

The kennel cough vaccine is usually given as drops up the nose not as an injection - did you see your vet administer this?

Yes I did but didn't realise thats what it was until afterwards. She was talking to me and I'd booked in for yearly boosters, I didn't give it much thought tbh, I just assumed it was part of the process x
