Best puzzle toys for (not the brightest) ddog

I take ddog to work with me when i have to go into the office, although he always gets a walk at lunch I think he could do with a bit more mental stimulation during the day there too.

Can anyone recommend any puzzle toys? Something easy to start him off with! Thank you

Why not just stuff a kong?

thestuffthatdreamsaremadeof · 06/11/2022 18:34

He had one as a puppy and wasn't bothered by it. I could try it again though.

He plays with lots of soft toys. Anything plastic or rubber he tends to not bother with. He's not a chewer.

I like the Nina ottosson toys - they say on the box how easy/hard they are

You can make your own.

Empty plastic milk bottle put in kibble and dog shakes it or pushes it to get kibble out.

Muffin tin with treat and then a tennis ball in each hole. Dog has to lift tennis ball to get treat.

Roll up a t towel with treats on each roll dog has to get treats out - may unroll the t towel or just pick it up and drop them out.

Put food around a area for the dog to sniff out. Start with food on the floor and then build up to putting at different heights or behind items.

Get load of cardboard boxes and hide food in them. Increase the difficulty so start with in an open box, then close one side of the box, the close the whole box, then put box inside box etc etc

The kong you fill with food but make it slow to eat stuff.

All puzzles are rewarding with food.

Stuffing Kongs or similar (if they aren't fussed by a Kong try a West Paw Toppl which is a bit more open). Ours goes through phases with a Kong, sometimes loves it other times couldn't give a monkeys. Snuffle mats or snuffle balls are good.

Or just get a good chew. Not rawhide and youll need something non-smelly - for that I would go something like venison/deer hide, rabbit ears (not long lasting though!) or ostrich. You can also buy odourless pizzles from JR Products now. There's yak bars, antlers etc but I find them too hard, I worry about teeth and also find them noisy.

These are all great for home but far too noisy for the office, surely?

Lickimats aren't exactly tricky to solve, but do take some time to complete as they have to lick a lot of corners.

The Nina Ottosson Tornado is also quite simple
