How do I know if my puppy likes me?!

So I posted a few weeks ago with a real case of puppy blues - I honestly thought I'd made a huge mistake

Fast forward 6 weeks and I feel like I've turned a corner. But I'm worried that she doesn't like me that much. Apart from first thing in the morning, she doesn't actually show much affection or get particularly excited when she sees me. Couldn't care less when I pick her up from doggy daycare! She's a 5 month of show cocker

Any experience of this?

Some dogs are more velcro than others. When I adopted my dog, he was 8 months old. I'd known him since he was a tiny puppy, and I would see how his original owner would cradle him like a baby, smush him to her chest, and then he'd lick her face for AGES. He's never really done that with me. Even now, after having him for going on 2 years.

At first, I thought it was because he just didn't feel the same love for me. But then I actually realised that he was very anxious in his first home - and therefore, frantically trying to appease his owner. Whereas in my home, he's learnt to be more confident, more independent, and doesn't need to be frantic with me. Instead, he does little things - like watching me whenever I leave the room, always coming when I call him, and sleeping with me at night. Sometimes very clingy dogs are not necessarily the happiest dogs. Sometimes a bit of independence is a sign of a calm, secure dog.

Are you always with your dog except when she's in daycare? Do you go out and leave her home alone? And if so, what is she like when you come home?

Also, do you know what her all-time favourite things are, and do you do these things with her regularly? Having a puppy can feel like a lot of training training training, and it's really easy to forget to just relax, play, have fun, and bond. Could that be going on? Do you feel like you do a lot of bonding stuff with her and really just spend time enjoying her and all of her silly little quirks?

How much quality time do you spend with her each day?

IME dogs that get over exited when they see their owners either struggle with impulse control generally, suffer with anxiety and have been upset while seperated or have owners that get over excited back and so are mirroring the behaviour.

A dog's reaction to seeing you isn't really a test of love.
