Apologies if someone has already started a new thread. Couldn’t see one when I had a quick look.

As it’s a new thread, why don’t we all (re-) introduce ourselves. Ie. Good excuse for more cute puppy pictures!

I have RiverPup, who is now a 15 weeks old black Labrador.

Two pictures of when we first got him, and more recent.

DPup is 11 weeks today and we are now sleeping all night and have managed ti start signalling the need for a wee…yay. She also will now not poop in the back garden and has to go out the front because that’s where DDog goes when they get walked 😂.

She’s calmed down a little bit and the two dogs are now starting to get on well (see pic 😆). She’s learning some hand signals too as we are now fairly sure she’s deaf.

Oops forgot the pic

Hey all, I never declared pup ownership here but been silently enjoying reading you and seeing your pups.

My boy is a bit over 4 month old, he's been really good so far, the usual nipping and biting, some sleepless nights, but overall he's been very easy.
I initially wasn't sure about the crate (not a thing at all in my country) but it has been a life saver! I'm going to tatoo "enforced naps" on my arm.

We're starting to work on alone time (for some reasons, we couldn't do that before, we travelled a bit for the first 7-8 weeks together), it's going well, but we're not yet at the stage where I can leave him for more than 30min and I have to prepare him for that.

We're starting puppy class in two weeks, really looking forward to it.

Here he is. He's an English Toy Terrier and I absolutely adore that little chap.

Dpup is now 11 and a bit weeks old. We are still on 1-2 accidents a day, they are usually mid play with DDog. Starting to drive me a little bit potty because I thought we were starting to get the hang of this house training thing 🙄. I don’t think she’s going to be one of these dogs who’ve got it covered by 12 weeks that’s for sure. She will hold on for a poo until she goes out the front to the grass (we have artificial grass in our garden) that seems to be something she’s learnt from DDog so that’s good. Dpup also now starting to enjoy her short walks now.

How is everyone else’s pup doing?

@FastFood your pup is a very handsome looking gentleman ❤️

WalkAwaySugarbear · 02/02/2023 17:48

I've loved reading this thread. We've had our 3month old mini dachshund for 4 weeks now. She's really settling in, crate training has been a complete success. Now she's had her jabs, walking has calmed her down at home.

Riverlee · 03/02/2023 21:08

@WalkAwaySugarbear

please can we have a photo of Sugarbear pup?

i had the return puppy blues when RiverPup woke up at 5.30am this morning!

@FastFood lovely pup. We have met a few very sweet toy terriers while out. Last one was a pup that Orangepup had a blast with.

@JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam Orangepup is coming up 18 weeks and we still have the odd accident, not many mind but usually in the evening.

@WalkAwaySugarbear yes photo please!

Orangepup is starting to settle more. A bit less mouthy than before which is good. However she has now managed to get into the raised beds in the garden much to DHs dismay... another thing to add to the training list which is getting ever longer!

For the first time this evening Orangepup is off her food. I imagine she's coming down with something as she literally will eat anything at all times. Will be keeping an eye.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 04/02/2023 10:03

Here she is 😍

Adorable! What lovely markings.

Look at her leg wrinkles!! She's so cute.

Rowgtfc72 · 05/02/2023 16:51

@WalkAwaySugarbear she's gorgeous!

Our dachshund is 25 weeks now and still not very sociable. Took him for a walk yesterday with a friends puppy. 10 minutes of frantic barking and pulling at the lead but then was happy to walk on a loose lead with the puppy the other side of me.
He's not aggressive, just a scaredy sausage.
We've made plans for more walks.
Here's diesel at 25 weeks.

And look at his ears!!! Are they super silky?? Gorgeous.

Citygirlrurallife · 05/02/2023 18:38

Oh diesel you're so cute!

Orangebadger · 05/02/2023 20:07

Look at that tongue! Gorgeous!

Orangebadger · 05/02/2023 20:10

So Orangepup was the monkey in the puppy class. Bloody hard work to keep her contained and listen and then do what I thought I'd heard! Was meant to have DD with me, but she's sick as is the rest of the house. Hopefully will be easier with a sidekick!

And did you know that dogs can catch norovirus off us? I did not until Orangepup became the 5th member of the house to vom!!! Quick google confirmed this. Only the cat was spared!

Sunflowers765 · 06/02/2023 14:11

@Orangebadger you have my sympathy re puppy classes! Sunpup was better this week because we were outside doing a bit of rally/ hoopers / agility ( non impact) but indoors he's the worst in class! All the other pup dogs sitting quietly, Sunpup was obsessed with playing and hoovering up other dogs treats! It's hard to concentrate on instructions when you're trying to bribe your pup to pay attention!

Wellingtonwombles · 08/02/2023 14:22

17 days until we get this boy home so will be coming on here for lots of advice. 1st time puppy owner and slightly terrified

What a cutie. What sort of pup is he - spaniel cross?

From another first time dog owner, be prepared for your life to be turned upside down! We’ve all gone through periods of puppy blues and the feeling of ‘what I have I let myself in for?’. But next minute they’ll be wagging their tale, look cute and adorable, and all is forgiven!

Hi all and welcome to the new joiners. I’ve been struck down with Covid and as dogs can get Covid (as well as noro - sorry to hear you all had that @Orangebadger and hope you’re all much better now) I’ve been avoiding our puppy as well as the family since Monday - I miss the puppy most of all of them! I have been making up for it by buying her lots of stuff from my isolation zone. She is apparently being a very good dog for DH kids and our nanny

Yep good guess. Hes a Cavapoo.

I am slightly dreading it but also quite excited too. Definitely more terrified then when I had my first daughter!

How old is Riverpup now? Do you think you are through the puppy blues?

Uponmytiptoes · 08/02/2023 17:56

We got our puppy 5 weeks ago, she's a 13 weeks old cocker spaniel and she's so lovely but now I've started trying to train her to not pull on the lead she's started barking like crazy.

I'm not using force or anything. I'm going with the stopping when she pulls and getting her to come back in line with me then moving on. She was starting to get it (and really quickly) but a couple of days ago she started barking when I stop. I'd tell her 'no' and wait for her to calm down before we moved but she seems to be getting worse! Now she's barking so much and it sounds like she's being tortured! And she throws herself about before finally coming to my side and calming down. Then it's straight into a pull as soon as we move then barking again. It's making e dread taking her out! Has anyone had this with their pup? Or any ideas on what I can do?

I'm hoping it's just frustration and once she gets the hang on walking on the lead she'll stop

Beginningless · 08/02/2023 22:34

Hello all, not been on for a while, welcome to all the beautiful new pups. Our pup is now 6mo and puppy blues have definitely passed, he’s such a darling and I feel confident that the remaining slightly annoying behaviours will pass, now. A couple of months ago I just felt like omg, we have a barky stubborn nightmare of a dog, but now Im definitely in love.

Tonights conundrum though is that sis in law’s collie has come to stay for a few night, and he seems so sad! Ours has stayed with him and they get along fine but collie is 2 and hasn’t stayed away from home before. Need to go to bed soon but I feel for him, anyone any experience or tips?

Rowdythree · 09/02/2023 07:33

Wellington what a cutie, I bet you can't wait to get him home! I'd definitely echo be prepared to have you life turned upside down for a while! But it is worth it when you see their little faces and the love they have for you! We've had Rowdypup home for 7 weeks now, and although the exhaustion of those first weeks has gone, we still can't quite relax while he's awake. I have spent most of the last couple of days being a bodyguard for my older dog, as the puppy wants to pounce on him and bite his ears all the time!

Beginningless aww poor doggo is probably missing his mum, did he bring any home comforts with him, or is there a routine that you can stick to with him so that his day still seems familiar? Give him lots of cuddles and love, hopefully he'll soon settle in with you.

highlandcoo · 09/02/2023 10:46

Wellingtonpup is really sweet!

@Uponmytiptoes I am focusing on Highlandpup not pulling on the lead too just now. It takes a lot of patience and I'm doing the same as you; stopping, bringing him back, starting again, slowing and stopping when he pulls, rinse and repeat ad nauseam.

He starts a walk pretty well, and I think he does understand what's going on, because he will pull forward then sometimes stop himself and wait for me to get up to him and to start moving again, but towards the end of the walk he's losing patience and the tugging gets much worse. I just try to stick with it and be consistent though. My friend's dog has never stopped pulling on the lead to the extent that they do no lead walks at all now and I really wouldn't want that.

We also take him for a good run round in an open space off lead most days to use up energy so I feel that's a good combination.

The puppy trainer has recommended giving frequent treats on the lead walks, always behind our legs so he has to be back there to get something nice so maybe that's something else you could try?
