I just trapped my pup’s tail in the door as I went through. He was following me and must have not cleared the door before I closed it. Obviously I didn’t close it fully but goodness the yelp! 😭 I fussed him for ages, said sorry millions of times and felt all along his tail which he allowed me to do no problem. Anything I need to watch out for other than the usual not eating etc? He seems ok and his tail seems to moving in all the usual ways but I obviously want to do all I can if he might be hurt. I feel dreadful also because I hurt him and he won’t understand it was a mistake 🥲

He may associate the pain with walking through the doorway, rather than you. Puppies are drama queens when they're hurt. It's all part of their I'm little and delicate persona, which they use to get adults (dogs) to treat them gently. I would just keep an eye on him.

If it's any consolation, you'll accidentally hurt him many more times during his lifetime 😂

I'd watch out for signs of pain, such as grooming his tail, pacing, restlessness, vocalisations and increased panting.

I would make sure that everyone in the household (especially children) knows that he may be in pain, and at the very least has had a fright, so that they know that it's even more important to give him space if he asks for it.

If you're worried, a non urgent vet appointment might put your mind at ease. Even if there's nothing wrong with him, you could use it as a socialisation opportunity and ask the vet to feed him some tasty treats.
