Chews for puppies

What chews did you give your pup? What can they have from 8 weeks? Lots of packs say over 4 months. I've read lots of things about some chews being dangerous- but then how come pet stores can still sell them for puppies? Our dog trainer recommended raw hide but only flat strips. I've seen things like cow ears still hairy, but tbh these are grossing me out! Can baby pup have antlers? Just interested in opinions!

Our puppy (now dog) had pizzle sticks, yak cheese and pork skin rolls from 10 weeks. They used to last for ages but now he can demolish them in minutes. We have a country pet shop around the corner that we visit and he chooses his own chew from a stand that’s like a pic n mix for dogs 😂 and carries it home. Here he is trotting home with his chew 🥰. You’ll get used to the random animal body parts around your house, the worst (and his favourite) was a deer leg complete with hoof 🤢.

We have a local shop dedicated to all things dog. They sold chews suitable for pups and so she got them pretty much from about 10weeks. Her favourites are still chicken feet and pigs ears, and those 100% dried chicken twists.

Mine had pizzle sticks and yak milk sticks from a pup

Pups can have split antlers you just need to be careful as they can be hard

have a look at dragon fly products they have great stuff and really clear guides on what pups can have

Definitely no rawhide and I'd be really concerned that that's what your trainer is recommending - it's so dangerous 😔

I wouldn't give any dog antlers either as they can break and damage teeth - things like yak bars, pizzle sticks, air dried animal skins, trachea and ostrich tendon are all good for puppies.

Basically anything natural and raw or air dried only - no smoked or cooked bones.

Definitely no rawhide

Absolutely the worse thing you can give any dog and I'm also surprised any trainer would suggest them.

They're produced using poisons; lots on line about how they're produced if you're looking for further information.

Thanks, that's what I thought about rawhide, but it's bad that big chain pet stores can sell it when apparently it's so lethalConfused thanks for the info on dragonfly products I've had a look at their website.

Remember pet stores are there to make money, not necessarily sell healthy treats.
