I don't know what to do - am I over reacting

I don't know what to my nine your old King Charles spaniel has suddenly started limping really bad and panting a lot. Her back leg has gone and I've examined it myself and she seems to be in no pain. Every so often she will start panting really heavily and be wide eyed. Two years ago her litter mate started like this in the morning and died in the evening and now I'm scared stiff that she is not going to make it through the night.

Going to the emergency vet is tricky as I have no family or childcare around me and would mean either leaving my children on their own or taking them with me.

Not sure what I want anybody to say to be honest just don't know what to do

You need to take her to the vet even if it means taking the kids.

I would take her to the vet as soon as possible. I know you have childcare issues would a neighbour/friend help. Heavy panting is a sign of pain. This happened to my poor dog three weeks ago and she died on the way to the vet . From seeing her panting to her dying was only no more than 2 hours. It was horrific and I will always wonder if I had noticed sooner/reacted quicker would it have changed anything. It may be nothing serious but I wouldn’t risk it . I will keep everything crossed everything is ok

Thank you. I am waiting on emergency vet calling me back to tell me which is the nearest to go I'll wake kids up once I know. Thank you for replying

Glad to hear you’re taking her. Really hope she’s ok. ❤️

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 03/10/2022 22:44

Paws crossed she's ok.

are you sure you don't have a neighbour you'd trust to sit with the kids for you? I'd happily do it.

CherrySocks · 03/10/2022 23:10

The OP has literally said she has no childcare options nearby. Who asks random neighbours to mind their children for the first time at this time of night?

You are in a difficult position OP.

Can you ask the emergency vet to come to your home and collect poor spaniel?
Do the RSPCA have animal ambulances? I've googled and found this

how's your dog? i've seen a blog that the most common reason is trauma or they have a chronic, degenerative disease.
