I just wanted to share my happy news

Around 6 weeks ago I found a lump on my 13 year old dogs chest, it was about 1-2 inches wide and it was a lumpy mass, my heart sank and I was immediately concerned about what it might be.

I took her to the vet and the vet found a further 3 small lumps dotted around (she's very fluffy so they were hard to find). She recommended an aspirate of the lumps and I was devastated when my worst fears were confirmed and the results came back as being positive for cancerous cells.

The vet recommend surgery to remove the tumors along with a biopsy of them to find out what we were dealing with. So she had her surgery about 2 weeks ago and I spent the whole day feeling sick with worry, but fortunately it all went really well and I was able to bring her home that evening.

She was quite distressed after the surgery and I felt like I'd made the wrong decision to put her through such a big operation at her age but she recovered quite quickly and she's been coming on leaps and bounds ever since.

Today I had a call from the vet to say that 1 of her lumps was benign, 1 was a mixture of carsinoma and benign cells, and 2 were carcinoma but they are really confident that it hasn't spread, that they got good margins and that she has a really good chance that it won't come back.

She means the world to me, she's been by my side through so many things over the past 13 years and I absolutely adore her. I cried such happy tears to hear that my girl has a good chance. I just really wanted to share the news with someone 😁

Aww. So pleased your gorgeous girl is on the mend.

How much are you spoiling her now on a scale of 1-10? 12?

They're so worth it x

FluffySocks0 · 28/09/2022 18:47

@meateatingveggie Thank you so much 🥰 She's being spoiled rotten (as she should be) getting lots of treats and snoozing on a heated blanket. She's allowed to go for short walks again now so she's a very happy girl.

Thank you for sharing. It’s so lovely to read a good news post for a change. Sending love to both of you xx

FluffySocks0 · 28/09/2022 19:05

That's partly why I wanted to post too. I was obviously bursting with joy and wanted to share the happy news with anyone and everyone 😁 but also because it's nice to read some happy stories sometimes especially when your going through it yourself. You want some hope for a happy outcome.

We just got back from the vet and she's delighted with how well my girl has healed and doesn't need to see her again. I just have to check her over once a month incase she gets any new lumps but fingers crossed that she won't 🤞

I'm so happy for you . Both my dogs have had lump removal and big dogs was cancer but thank god they took good margins and it's not aggressive . I understand the torment and hope your little girl has many happy years ahead of her

FluffySocks0 · 28/09/2022 19:33

It's something you hope to never hear isn't it and you try not to think the worst but it's so hard not to. I'm glad your dogs were ok too :) xx

Not very good picture of 13 yo darling dog a week before £3,000 removal of lumps 😬. We had another 3 years of her and she died of old age 🥰🐶

She was the love of my life! But I’m very proud of the great life she had. I lasted a fortnight before calling Battersea (where she came from) and asking for a small old dog.
