First camping trip with dog

Hi all. As above- heading down to the coast this weekend with young cocker spaniel. It's her first trip to the beach and I can't wait! I'm trying to think through the logistics of camping with a dog though- can anyone help?
Helpful tips/ things to consider/ things to take?

Thank you all 😊

It can get very cold at night, I'd suggest a warm dog coat to sleep in, as well as dog blankets. Also for after the beach a dog drying coat. Have fun!

One of the metal screw in things for tying up too so you don’t have to hold a lead all the time

def a drying coat! Amazon do cheap versions of ruff and tumble drying coats and they’re just as good

Have fun!

Is your dog crate trained? If you are staying in a tent you will likely need one as if the dog panics in the night or its left alone for a few mins in the tent it is likely to claw it's way out.
You can start with the crate and over time as it gets used to camping reduced the use until you dont need it.

As others have said, good bedding. I'd also put a blanket over the crate for extra warmth.

Additionally one of those twisty dog spikes. Most sites have a dogs on leads at all times rule. I've seen ppl use tent pegs put they pull straight out.

& Toys for the dog / favourite blanket from home for the tent so it recognizes it as a safe space.

Try and find a quiet spot in the campsite, ie not close to the play area or toilets for instance where it will be a lot of people walking past your tent constantly.

If he is excitable perhaps a windbreak kind of thing to block off views

IF you have space in the car, bring the dogs usual bed/blankets etc

Good luck, our dog loves camping

Thank you all 😊
I have just bought a ruff and tumble coat, so that's worked out well!
She is crate trained, so we will go with that for the first night, and definitely bring along her usual crate set up (blankets etc).
A screw in tether is a good shout!

Definitely a screw in tether. As well as a drying coat I'd take a spare collar/harness.

I'd probably try putting the tent up in the garden and introducing her to it prior to the weekend.

My old Labrador loved camping. We made him a bed in the back of the car.

Thank you both 😊 I can imagine she will love it- apart from all the outdoors, it will be concentrated and uninterrupted time together, which is an easy win for a spaniel 😂

Although this is not particularly for the dog, I would recommend wearing 'clothes' to bed rather than pyjamas (e.g. leggings and a hoody) in case the dog wakes up in the morning and needs to go for a walk/wee straight away and cannot wait for you to get dressed without barking/making a puddle in the tent. It's also warmer

Our last dog hated the tent mainly due to wind noise. She slept in the car in the end. Have you tried sleeping in the tent in the garden to gauge reaction?

Anyone else done this with experience to share??!!
