We noticed blood on 26th Aug.

I know it's still early days but how will we know when she is finished and able to go for walks again please?

General rule of thumb is 2 weeks but our birches first season was 3 weeks.
without tmi you will know from the physical changes as the swelling will go right down.

we walked at quiet times in places that were leads only/ road walks and did more training at home so we didn’t need to go out everyday. Ours was very quiet and snoozy so didn’t mind not going out

I would say 16-18 days is more typical than 2 weeks.

We still walk for the first 7 days but in quiet places where we're unlikely to encounter any dogs and if we do they would be on a lead. Then the bare minimum in the middle week, might do a very late night pavement walk if that. Our dog is normally flagging at this point (if you scratch by her tail she'll pull it all the way to one side). Third week is a repeat of the first.

Other than the obvious, our pup shows no sign of being in season. I made the mistake the first season of keeping her in from Day1 so she was climbing the walls after a week. Better to keep them in the second week as that's when they're most attractive/fertile and walk in sensible quiet places either side. You may find your dog doesn't want to go out at all, which is obviously the best option!

We'll be getting her spayed after this season thank goodness.
