Grass pollen has gone, hasn't it?

We have a 16mo lab and he was scratching non stop in the spring. His belly was red. The vet gave him a course of steroids and said it was more than likely grass pollen.

The steroids worked but then he started to scratch again. After somdd we advice, we used piraton (sp) but it only took the edge off occasionally. Our poor boy thinks a scratchy tummy is normal.

We are now in September, do this can't be grass can it? He's up to date with flea treatments etc. The vet said that a food allergy is unlikely.

We will get him back to the vet next week, but I wondered if anyone had had experience in this and can suggest anything?

Clover is a very common allergen to dogs expecially on the tummy.
There is a lot of that about

I think it's weed pollen now so could be that if she's laying on grass that has weeds in it could be that?

Could be dust mites in your carpet if it's on his tummy.

My dog is on a daily dose of Apoquel due to terrible itching. We never found out what caused it but if we forget to give him the meds the itching starts again.

It could be dust mites.

What surfaces do you have at home that she lies on - regular grass? Artificial grass? Carpet?

Update. The vet has given another round of steroids and said it could still be something from the garden. To wait until November before investigating further.

Luckily the steroids have provided almost instant relief. Also, vet took a skin scrape and confirmed no parasites 🦠

Regular grass and a mix of carpets and hard floors inside.

My dog scratches herself raw in spring and autumn. We now have the (expensive) cytopoint injection through may and June... then it eases through summer and comes back in autumn...no idea WHAT is causing it but the Cytopoint works amazingly... withinn24 hours she stops scratching!
She was on Apoquel for a while but the injections work far better.
