I'm so sorry, is ddog able to eat? I fed mine his favourite treats all day in the lead up.

JohannSebastianBach · 19/07/2022 10:47

No advice but I'm very sorry and I'm sending hugs.

stayathomegardener · 19/07/2022 10:48

We took a whole packet of his favourite cooked sausages.

He went to sleep being loved by his family and still licking his lips post last sausage.

You are doing the very best for him and he really won't know xx

stayathomegardener · 19/07/2022 10:50

A paw print?
Are you bringing him home to bury?
We kept his collar instead of burying him in it.

MarbleGolden · 19/07/2022 10:52

He can still eat and as greedy as anything but he general gets a dicky tum after eating so I didn't want to feed much different until closer the time but he's just had a few treats and DH is taking him so I'll send him with some for whilst he's there. I got him as soon as I moved out of home at 18, here he is approx 8 years ago. So bloody cute. He's 14 now so not had a bad running.

No advice but a huge unmumsnetty hug. Such a difficult time.

Our vet took us and DDog into the garden and spread a rug for us, DDog lay down between us and the vet had already put the cannula and a very long line into his paw. SO he went off to sleep in the fresh air lying down between us, being cuddled.

It was the saddest day of our lives for years, but also so very comforting when we thought of how that wonderful vet dealt with it. We will always be grateful.

I’m so, so sorry 😔 First, tell yourself that you’re doing the right thing (which you undoubtedly are, no one takes this decision lightly). Second, try to prioritise the DDog’s feelings in the final moments. Be reassuring and loving because they pick up on your tone/body language and you don’t want them to be scared. Be there with them at the end because you are their main source of comfort. Then afterwards, be kind to yourself and allow yourself to grieve your loss. Sending lots of love xxx

Our ddog had fish and chips the day before and pancakes on the day (she was pts on pancake day 2020). We got a few paw prints sent backa dm some fur. And had her cremated and have the ashes. Some have been scattered and dd got a necklace made with a bit.

Topseyt123 · 19/07/2022 10:55

I am so sorry. It is so hard when they have to go. I remember it very clearly from when I lost my two (my labrador back in 2019 and my cocker spaniel last October).

I've kept locks of hair, their collars and leads (with the tags on) and I have photos and videos that I regularly look at.

I also had individual cremations for each of them so that I could have their ashes back and feel that they had "come back home, where they belonged." The ashes are in lovely individual ornamental urns with their photos on the side.

You be kind to yourself and do whatever works for you. Remember the good times, laugh at the comedy moments and just get through day by day. You'll never forget them and will always remember, but the pain will get easier to live with little by little.

MarbleGolden · 19/07/2022 10:59

Thank you. Very comforting messages. I feel strangely at peace with it now but who knows how I'll feel once he's gone. Paw prints are a good idea, I'll go do some now.

Ask the vet to take paw prints for you. I had my beloved dog PTS last year and I still can't bring my myself through his box of papers.

SarahSissions · 19/07/2022 15:08

Big hugs. Dogs know when they’re loved, that’s all they need xx

Gorgeous photo and 14 is a good age.
