Are there any commands your dog really dislikes having to do?

Just curious really, it makes me laugh...I'm not talking about the important ones like stay/come/down (although maybe your dog does hate recall!)...Mine always used to hate lie down and he really disliked being asked to roll over.

He was pretty good so we let him off but the frustrated bottom wiggle always made me giggle.

Moment, not monument - thanks iPad 🙄.

Our one year old lab also hate leave. He will try to simultaneously leave it and continue to chew it at the same time, which is of course not possible!

dustofneptune · 16/07/2022 07:29

My Spaniel is a total knob about “lie down” 😂

He’ll go into a sit first, then avert his gaze and slowwwwly turn his head away from me as if he can’t hear me haha

Also? They say lying down immobilises a dog and that they can’t bark and lie down at the same time. Based on my dog’s bratty protest barks in the lying down position, I have to confirm this is absolute crap 😂😂

Autumn101 · 16/07/2022 07:36

These are great 😂

Mine does not like to lie down, he does a kind of body slam into the floor then instantly gets up again! He’s a springer so if he’s awake he must be moving at all times….

Drop it is a work in progress, he’s great at dropping his ball or his toys, not so great when it’s a sock or shoe unless I can swap for a tasty treat.

PritiPatelsMaker · 16/07/2022 07:42

Similar to torfa, if sent to bed ours will put the tiniest part of her body possible on the bed as if to say “we’ll, you didn’t say how much of me had to be in bed I can just imagine a surly teen saying that Grin

Ours has to go in her bed when we eat but if it's something that she particularly likes the smell of, she'll get her blanket half out of the bed, drag it towards the table and lie on that. Very sneaky Grin

MeatballMeatball · 16/07/2022 08:03

The only reliable one without a treat is Stop! Probably as that’s the only one we really say and mean it. Everything else she regards as optional or interchangeable.

Spanielsarepainless · 16/07/2022 18:28

Stop whistle with my young Lab. If we are practising on lead it's immediate, off lead it's either ignored, or he'll sit then get up again or come to me. We are getting there but the last dog picked it up so quickly.

Joyfulflowers · 16/07/2022 18:53

Our rescue collie/lab x will do anything for food so fairly easy to train except walk to heel, we've been trying for 10years to no avail! He'll walk to heel if there's food but the minute it's given, he trots ahead🤣

Actually he's slowing down a fair bit now so at the end of a long off lead walk he might walk 'close by' when put back on lead but very much on his terms!

These are all making me laugh so much!

I am so familiar with these attitudes 🤣 and I think I'm beginning to understand why Crufts is a Thing!

I've offered our DDog a treat this afternoon and asked her to sit. She lifted a paw and actually huffed when I said no, sit. Then proceeded to just hover her bum an inch above the floor Grin

SirChenjins · 16/07/2022 22:45

We’ve been working on ‘quiet’ to stop him barking at random stuff. He gets quite grumpy at this command and grudgingly reduces his bark volume until it it sounds like ‘harumph’ Grin

ilovesushi · 17/07/2022 10:16

"Come!" On autopilot, her body will u-turn around towards me, then her conscious brain kicks in and she weighs up whether she wants to or not. Sometimes she does, sometimes she looks me direct in the eye rooted to the spot knowing she should come but tempted by whatever else is out there. We are both very much works in progress.

2ndMrsdeWinter · 18/07/2022 22:47

He hates “lie down”. I get this withering look from him that says “What?! On the f*ing floor?! No chance.”

It cracks me up every time. Only a chunk of juicy chicken will persuade him to comply.

Watchthesunrise · 18/07/2022 23:01

My schnauzer is very stubborn. He's hilarious.
Say the word Bath anywhere near him and he slinks away.
Love him.

Watchthesunrise · 18/07/2022 23:03

He looks at you incredulously if you say 'drop it' when he has a bone. Fair enough I suppose.

PestoPasghetti · 18/07/2022 23:12

Hahaha, I just remembered my last dog would get absolutely irate if given commands in French. She responded to the English versions just fine.

LimboLass · 18/07/2022 23:19

Gets the arsehole when I tell him to paint the ceiling but he eventually stops sulking and does it.

Lolabalola · 19/07/2022 09:37

Lie down, on a tiled or wooden floor. Will only do it on a mat or carpet. If really needs to do it for a treat, willl do it really slowly and grudgingly whilst looking you in the eye and wishing death upon you 🤣
