Adopting a retired racing greyhound

After much research and thought, we have reserved to adopt a 2 year old retired female greyhound (retired young due to injury). If anyone has also done this, how did you find it and how did you make it easier for them to transition from 'kennel life' to 'pet dog' life? Is there anything I need to particularly do, or not do, in the first few weeks?

We have a camera on her when we leave her. We always take her for a quick walk first because she always does no1 and no2 on a walk. We've left her for up to 5 hours a couple of times, we weren't planning on being out that long.
It took patience to get her out of her shell and 6 months before she'd go on a sofa or upstairs. She hates hard floors which is a good thing because we can control where she goes. We have mats in the hallway but not in the kitchen so she's never counter surfed.
I asked the rescue for a small quiet female and that's exactly what I got. We wouldn't be without her and will most likely get another when she's older

My friends adopted a retired greyhound and he's amazing, so sweet and gentle but he is quite thick. He doesn't know any commands or tricks but makes up for it by looking at you with beautiful soulful eyes.

He's been fine with small furries and is great with kids. He only needs a couple of short walks a day and sleeps loads.
