Caring for a dog with a double coat

Ive always had none shedding dogs but now am the proud owner of a 10 month old dog who has a double coat. Its a beautiful shinny coat but Im not used to dog hairs everywhere luckily I'm not obsessively house proud. I have purchased a dog comb that seems very effective in getting out the soft under coat and am combing him everyday he loves it but Im getting handfuls out every time I amazed he has any left! Can I over comb him? Will I damage his coat by getting so much under coat out everyday? Ive been doing it for two weeks will I eventually get less and hopefully have less dog hair everywhere?

I comb my cav quite a lot. You’re probably getting fair bit of hair out because it’s hot. I think you’re better to do it more regularly rather than for a longer time if that makes sense. So 15 minutes every other day is better than half an hour every four days. And don’t push too hard of course.

Hopefully someone with actual expertise as opposed to my anecdotal experience will come along 😅

Use a dog rack brush and you will get a lot of hair out. No you cant over groom as long as you are gentle with the dogs skin.

I agree regular grooming is best and you will have periods when a lot of hair is removed and other times when just a bit less is removed Grin

It constantly amazes me how much hair keeps coming out day after day after day.

Depends on the brush. Don’t use a. Furminator as they are bladed and will damage the coat. Use an undercoat rake and you can use that as much as you like; and then a slicker brush-you can over use that though and damage the hairs (it won’t take out much though so you’ll want to use the rake more anyway)
a robot vacuum to go round every day and shark pet will be your friends here.

I have a double coated dog..a Eurasier...
I brush her every day and every day I get a dog's worth of hair off!
I use an undercoat rake (literally looks like a tiny garden rake) and gently but firmly go through her coat. Except her exceptionally fluffy trousers which are nigh on impossible and I some times have to resort to giving them a trim with clippers (only a couple of inches off but makes it so much easier)

Mine 'blows' her coat a couple of times a year.. goes from looking like a super fluffy wolf to a mangy coyote Grin but in hot weather it comes off in handfuls.

Oh and every corner of my house has hair even though I hoover daily!

What breed is he?

I have a variety of different combs and comb mine everyday. What breed of dog have you as I have a coat blower works great on northern breeds
