We have a lab X border collie 14 weeks. Shes absolutely gorgeous and perfect in every way. Amazing on walks, knows so many tricks and is super friendly the only issue is toilet training her haha!

I know she is a puppy and I completely expected and prepared for wees and poos in the house. We reward her when she goes outside and celebrate with her so much its like she's cured the world 😂. Ignore when she goes inside and uses enzyme cleaner BUT. I literally take her out hourly and wait with her for ages and ages and she literally will lay down in the garden for 20 minutes, come inside and make a puddle. I run up and down the garden like a crazy lady to make her move but she just looks at me like I'm stupid and keeps laying there.

I am so prepared for accidents and love her dearly i just need a point in the right direction.
any suggestions?

You might be better having a small area of the garden cordoned off just for loo visits, especially if it's a good sized garden. Then they know they're going for the loo rather than to play in the garden. Do you have a word you use for it (guide dogs use the term "busy busy") as this helps them know what you want them to do. Other than that it sounds like you're doing the right things!

You need a command. I say "Do wee-wees" and my MIL says "Be Quick!" which indicates to the dog you've not gone out there to play but to toilet. As @hellcatspangle said, cordon off a specific area and take her to that and say your command over and over. Don't turn it into a playtime / game situation. If she does a wee give a reward / fuss and go back in. She will soon associate that area and the command with doing a wee. Until she is fully toilet trained try to keep her in the kitchen or whatever and not free reign over the house.

Different breeds do it quicker and i would have thought a Collie would get it quickly tbh. My black lab did one wee inside (for which she was told off) and never did it again using the method above. My Jack Russells were a nightmare and took about 6 months and still occasionally do it on the floor 14 years on!

I’m no expert but I’d say you may need to take her out more frequently but for shorter periods of time. I would put her on a lead, take her to the same part of the garden each time, say your cue word, and wait. If nothing happens in 5 minutes, take her back inside. Some people recommend holding the pup on your lap before taking her out again a few minutes later. At first I would aim for going out every 20 minutes (not just putting her outside but taking her out on a lead) and also after she eats, sleeps, plays actively. When she pees outside, praise her but don’t go OTT. And watch her like a hawk in the house.

Good luck! Given her heritage I would imagine she’ll catch on very quickly.

I'd say waiting an hour in between toilet breaks is maybe a bit too much at that age - we did every 30 minutes up until around 16-18 weeks of age, even if he didn't always go.

So I would try taking her out more often, and then when she does go, use a command word while she's mid-wee (we say "go toilets!") and then tons and tons of praise and a very high value treat when she's finished. We used fresh roast chicken and he ONLY got it when he'd done a wee/poo outside.

She's young but you'll get there if you're consistent! She's incredibly cute by the way - enjoy her Grin

Any dog can be toilet trained no matter what age. I adopted a rescue he was not toilet trained at 7 month. It took me two weeks. The main thing is consistency and rewards with toilet training.

Hi

I have always done this with my dogs 🐕 never had issue .puppy wees or poos you take him/her show it (please don't put nose in it ) then I put the lead on take the puppy into the garden after 2/3 minutes walk back to poo wee show again in a firm voice say NO take puppy back outside few minutes more. Then clean up .. plus u can put on lead take garden c if needs a wee poo if puppy dose in garden make a fuss n give a treat .(if u r without a garden you can do the same just take puppy to where u would normally take on walks xx hope it helps
