Dog sitting worry

A work colleague just asked if I can look after her 10yr old female dog for a couple of days next week.

We have a 2yr old crazy cocker spaniel (still intact) who is still like a excitable puppy but very submissive around other dogs. He doesn't listen to us outside the house so is always on lead. We do hire secure fields so he gets a good run etc. He meets other dogs on walks and is happy with them but most dogs aren't keen on his excitement. We've never actually had other dogs in our home, I'm worried about how it will affect our boy, could this be a recipe for disaster?

We've never actually met my colleagues dog, she sounds pretty chilled etc but I'm wary about taking this on. They are really stuck for a dog sitter and can't find an alternative so I do feel a bit pressured.

Ideally, your colleague would be so grateful (and responsible) they'd agree to a couple of walk meet-ups first, so you can both see how the dogs are together before throwing them into 48 hours in the same house.

And buy you a couple of baby gates, in case you need them!

Unfortunately there is no time for them to meet up before hand.

I wouldn’t do it because if anything goes wrong you’ll be working with them

if you can’t try them together to make sure it’s safe your colleague will have to cancel the holiday or find someone else

assume there dog is spayed?

Dog lover with a fair bit of knowledge/experience here. Just do not do it. Not fair on the dogs, not fair on you. I am amazed that anyone with any common sense at all would even ask you to.

godmum56 · 29/06/2022 07:37

Ps not sure why you should be pressured....not your problem.

I'm a professional dog sitter.

Please, please don't agree to this without meeting the other dog first. Ideally, both dogs need to be walked together several times and your colleague should also bring her dog to your house so you can see how both dogs get on in a confined space.

Also if this lady is colleague - I assume you'll be out at work during the day? If so, you can't just leave two strange dogs alone in the house!

I've managed to come up with an excuse and said I can't look after their dog.

I just didn't feel comfortable.

Thankyou everyone for your posts.
