Healthy puppy food recommendations?

EW1995 · 27/06/2022 22:03

13 week old puppy no longer enjoying the food sent by breeder (James Wellbeloved).

I want to feed a mixture of wet and dry food, can someone recommend healthy brands?

No raw food as I am a vegetarian.

Thanks in advance! X

My dog loves Forthglade- gets a pretty good score on allaboutdogfood too.

Are you able to feed 2 different brands, say one wet food and another dry food as a topper?

I’m picking up my puppy next week and have a Fortglade starter box to transition him on to from the breeder’s food. They do both wet and dry. If he doesn’t take to that or it doesn’t suit him, I have a Wolfworthy sample to try and am considering giving Different Dog toppers with it.

You can feed two different brands as long as you make sure you are calculating their intake correctly for their age and weight.

Thank you! Have ordered some Forthglade wet and dry to bulk it out if needed 😊

What breed is pup?

We actually mix Forthglade with Lilly's Kitchen dry puppy food. I like the fact it has fish in it, and mixed with the Forthglade wet food gives a good selection of different proteins IMHO.
Our dog can be a bit sensitive to wheat, so I go for grain free Forthglade.
DDog is a voracious eater so she had a slow feeder bowl which slows her down a bit. I have blocked out her early puppy days, but I seem to remember that you need to moisten the dry food? Not 100% sure on that though.
Do have a look at the allaboutdogfood website, and is has very useful comparison functions.
Don't forget that you need to post a pic of your pup!

Have you tried adding a bit of warm food to the dry food to make it smell nicer?

i like forthglade wet food my pup didn’t like there fry food tho.

Even when my high energy, medium-large breed dog was a pup, she was getting nowhere near 1200kcal per day.

At 6 months ish our pup was eating around that. I would expect a male flat coated retriever to have higher requirements than a female lab.

Even at 18 months she has 1000kcal in kibble per day (this is recommended amount) plus some wet food and treats on top.

We feed essentials working dog food (there are cheaper options) plus forthglade 90%, fish, suitable leftovers, eggs as toppers. Kibble works out about £1.20 a day, probably averages another 50p a day for toppers.

Oops, posted on the wrong thread but still vaguely relevant!

Have a look at different brands in this website. Some eye opening info on there about some of the bigger brands.

We use forthglade and butchers for wet.

Have tried many kibble brands as my dog gets bored but we have now settled on ci tickety boo. Lots of different flavours and they did an awesome deal on buying 3 13.5kg bags. Her poos have firmed up loads but not sure from what age they can have this.
