Football warning for your ddogs!!

So when my now 2 yr old goldador was a puppy he had an old football, once belonged to my DC’s, which he absolutely loved, in the end it completely disintegrated and had to be binned.

Today I decided to buy him a new football, just your average football from a supermarket. Brought it home and gave it to him , he was delighted of course!!

A few minutes later, from the kitchen I could hear some whimpering so went to check on him. He had the ball in his mouth and it took me a minute or so to realise his jaw was completely jammed stuck around the ball with his big teeth pierced into it.

I quickly helped him get the ball out, and he was visibly upset for quite some time afterwards, almost like he was in shock, his jaw carried on quivering for a while!

Anyway, he’s fine now and out again playing with his tennis balls and other toys.

Just wanted to warn others that this can very easily happen. Am so thankful I was there and he was only like that for a few minutes. It was not a ball designed for dogs but I still thought it was fine. Please be careful and keep this in mind for your ddogs!!

Also be very careful with tennis balls. They wear down dogs teeth and are a major cause of choking in dogs.

Breathe right balls are the only balls my dogs ever have.

I'm going to be a boring spoilt-sport here, but balls (and toys in general) should only ever be used while supervised. Even toys designed for dogs are not safety-proof.

I remember buying our dog some toys from LIDL once - he ripped a huge chunk off it within seconds and if I hadn't been watching, he'd have swallowed it. It was a big chunk and would either have been very painful to pass, or would have caused a blockage somewhere - it really shook me up!

I'm so glad your dog is okay though. They do like to scare us!

Thanks for your comments. He only has a few toys that he has unsupervised in the house, and none of them are balls, he’s never completely unsupervised outside, but I will take greater care with his tennis balls too.

I've always bought basket balls rather than footballs they are much tougher.
