Sofa cover/blanket

Despite my best efforts to keep him off, dog now rules the house and has decided to sleep on the sofa. I don’ t mind but need to find a decent blanket/throw to cover it. Most ordinary blankets seem to retain loads of hair. What do you use to protect your sofa?

I use a couple of Primark throws in winter and cotton hammam towels in summer. One on one in the wash . The towels are striped and actually look nice .

We just use cheap Dunelm fleece blankets and chuck them in the wash once a week.

Mabelshouse · 22/06/2022 07:32

Thanks. Will check out suggestions. Do the fleece blankets not just get really hairy though?

Ours don't but he's a beagle so his hair is short and fine anyway.

My clingy rescue with severe separation anxiety has taken herself off to sleep on my bed today while I work in another room. She is usually by my side. She is not allowed upstairs. This is a miracle and I'm desperate to go and peek at her but she may follow me back down if I do.

Anyway, the bed has cheap ikea fleece blankets on for when she definitely doesn't sleep on there because she isn't allowed upstairs.

We also have them for the sofa that she isn't allowed on.

They wash and dry great but she's very short haired so not sure how they'd fair with a hairy beast.

For a few quid they're worth a go.

We just use an old bed sheet on our sofa in a bright colour.

Mabelshouse · 23/06/2022 22:25

Thanks.

I think fleece wouldn’t work due to Shedding. Sheet is a good idea. Hair wouldn’t stick to it as easily.

Fleece throws , changed couple of times a week and washed. I do a rinse with a bit of towel after the wash and Vamoosh washing machine cleaner about once a month.
2 black labs. The fleeces don’t look hairy but sometimes there’s a 3rd dog in the washing machine 😂

I have a washable sofa cover I got on Amazon for about £20, I couldn't find a blanket quite long enough to cover the full sofa so it was the best option for me. A couple of Asda fleece throws I regularly change to cover the armchair. Ddog galumphs between chair and sofa through the night but specifically avoids her dog bed which stays pristine of course GrinHmm

You could introduce a crate gradually for nighttime sleeping. My 3 pugs sleep in them. For furniture, crates and their day bed I have pet quality sheepskins from the Wool Company, they do not retain odour and can be brushed and shaken outside, spot cleaned for marks and washed in the washing machine if they get very grubby. Really practical and hardwearing. The dogs love them.

I use pet quality sheepskins on my sofa, dog day beds and in their night crates. They are fantastic as they don’t hold odour. Just shake them outside and give them a brush, the hair comes off really easy with the dogs’ rubber brush. You can spot clean them or put them in the washing machine if they get really grubby. Check out the Wool Company online. It’s great not having so much dog washing and non odorous beds.

Never heard of pet quality sheepskins. Off to look thanks all

They are just not perfect skins and trimmed back for easy maintenance. I also read that only 0.05% of sheepskins are used from the meat market, the rest are burnt or go into landfill. I think it makes sense to make use of them, environmentally friendly and they last for years.
