He's very VERY young - I think you need to re-adjust your expectations here.

Just keep taking him out as often as you can - we did every 30 minutes when awake, as well as after play, sleep, food, training and drinking, and clean up all his accidents with a proper pet cleaning spray (Simple Solution is a good one).

But accidents in pups are very common in the first year, I wouldn't expect him to be even remotely reliable at 11 weeks of age - sorry!

He is very very young. Potty training takes a long time to get 100% and there are usually multiple regression stages to get through.
If you know he likes to go as soon as he comes back in, you may have to start taking him straight back out again for a while.

Thanks im aware hes still young but im looking for advice on any repelling products etc? Ive used the cleaning enzyme stuff but it doesnt seem to stop him. Doing all the above and the garden door is open constantly so ill just keep taking him out every hour i suppose with command word, he just lies down or barks haha

If he doesn't go, pick him up and take him inside for five minutes and then go back out. If he doesn't get put down, he won't get the chance to go inside.

@hiredandsqueak great ill try that! I sometimes sit there for 30 mins and he just goes to sleep haha

I would shut the door, for starters - it just blurs the boundaries between indoors and outdoors and he won't understand why the grass is fine but your carpet isn't, lol.

There aren't really any products to stop them peeing inside, it's all about timing and being aware of the signs of toileting, unfortunately!

gemmabrittonuk · 17/06/2022 19:56

@coffeecupsandfairylights yer good point ill shut the door and keep an eye on him like a hawk. Im wondering if the bell method might work?

You shouldn't leave the door open, he needs to know that there is a definite boundary between inside where he doesn't toilet and outside where he does and you need to go with him for every toileting opportunity so that you don't miss a chance to command and praise.

Sorry - he’s going to be making mistakes about where to go for a good while yet. I wish there were a product you could use to fix this, but there isn’t.

He’ll get there, but not for a while yet.

Our dog wasn't reliably trained until around 5 months. It gets easier but at 11 weeks you still need to be taking them out after every meal, nap time etc. basically every 30 mins to an hour.
As he gets older you will become more aware of his regular toilet timings but at this age it's still very hit and miss.
