Puppy limps after sleeping

My 7 month old chi has started to limp for a couple of minutes after he first wakes up. He does not seem in any pain at all - it almost like his leg has gone to sleep. He tries to run about but its the same front leg that gives way umderneath him. After a couple of minutes and a stretch he is totally back to normal and its never a problem at any other time.
Ive visited the vet who found nothing wrong with his legs after 20 mins of manipulation. But no xrays and he didnt see him limp (its only after sleeping). I've now got a video to show the vet (i think they thought i was a bit neurotic to be honest) but has anyone known anything similar?

Is he sleeping on that leg, maybe its just gone a bit numb like ours do if we stay in the same position.

Thats exactly what it LOOKs like - so ive been watching how he sleeps, and it happens whatever position he's been sleeping in

Mine has had this in the past.

Like you, we took him to the vet and he was fine and it only happens after a really deep sleep.

He seems to have grown out of it now, whatever it was!

Thats so reassuring, thank you! I was hoping it might be a sort of phase as he grows. Its really heartbreaking to watch him stumble about each time and i would Hate to think i wasnt doing anything if it’s something that needs addressing. Think i will give it the weekend (unless he starts to it all the time) and go from there

Maybe some X-rays would put your mind at rest

coffeecupsandfairylights · 09/06/2022 22:23

I personally wouldn't pay for x-rays if it only happens after sleeping and he's fine the rest of the time.

I'm sure he'll be just fine - they do like to worry us though!

I would also be concerned about this. It might be nothing, just a bit of stiffness upon waking. But it might be something more serious. No one online can tell you which it is, of course. So if I were you, I would definitely go back to the vet next week if the problem continues.

I would be concerned about this and would want to know the reason. I would not be happy to just let it be like some of the posters on this thread.

It is very unusual for a healthy puppy to be reguarly limping and stiff after sleeping.

It could be simple pana or it may be something that needs investigating. I would go to the vet and ask for x rays or a referral to a physio .
