Can I have some info on samoyeds who have had basic training as a puppy? We're considering getting one but training from The get go. I know they can be stubborn but a well trained one please
Thanks

I have had northern breeds huskies / malamutes similar to samoyed. My friend has a samoyed. No issues with training start with basic commands as soon as you get your pup.

Lovely but require plentiful exercise, many are not ok off lead. Require dedicated grooming, although not as much as some woukd think, and when the coat blows, it's like being in a snow globe for a month:)

Very very barky, I couldn't live with one. Yap yap yap!

Beautiful though and when well bred they have a lovely temperament.

Thank you @Plentyofpets

Thank you @Sitdowncupoftea - yes the plan would be to train immediately and get from reputable breeder. Also getting a girl which I hope will be less barky (not guaranteed I know but will do what we can training wise)

Our Samoyed wasn't barky at home- he never barked at the doorbell, although he would go look, but he could get a bit overexcited when playing or around over dogs. He had puppish enthusiasm for playing his whole life which was a bit annoying to other grown dogs once he was grown up as I think he was a bit full on rather than than chilled out.

They are lovely dogs. We trained early too but I think you just have to accept they will often choose not to do something they know perfectly well you want to do. Sometimes it is embarrassing. They resist gently and with good humour so its hard not to laugh. If we pushed the issue our boy would often go on to do it with a humph kind of a noise.

We could never make the off lead recall stick if there was anything really interesting so we had to be careful on walks. I think the hardest thing with the training for this breed is food is pretty low motivation to them so he'd clearly choose not to at times. A female might be easier though I'm not sure!

I'd still get another one in a heartbeat. They are so loving and sweet.

I don't know if you've seen this video but think it sums them up the breed perfectly-

Barleysugar86 Your post made me laugh... we have a Eurasier (for the OP..they are almost identical but Eurasiers have a variety of colourings) and they are just the same, but I think less 'talkative' most of the time.
The HUMPH! When mine's displeased with something is hilarious...she follows me round, huffing at me.
And has a stubborn streak but finds herself very funny. And has a high prey drive..just for the chase!

Lol brilliant - I love the fact they make a humph sound 😂

Ah we had 2 boys, 18 months apart, they are a georgous breed, we took them both to puppy classes, as PP have said they were easy to train until they decided not to!, we didnt let ours off the lead unless they were in a secured area.
It will take you ages to walk anywhere because everyone wants to stop and have a cuddle and ask you how they keep so clean..... oh and you need to start brushing very early on ..... but totally worth it
