Tips for travelling to France with our dog.

We're going in August, I think I've read everything online properly. She had her rabies shot a few months back, is micro-chipped, and have her booked in with the vet to get her AHC from the vet before we travel.

We're driving and are going on the Eurotunnel. Is there anything else I need to think of?

On the way back, don't forget to get her wormed by a local vet 24 hours before travel. We were caught out by that and had to spend an extra night in Calais.

Other than that, you seem to have it all covered and it was actually a much easier process than we expected.

Make sure that the person who signs the AHC form at the vets is the person travelling with the dog.

You're technically not allowed to take dog food with you. In practice they don't seem to be checking right now but worth checking out what pet food you can buy in France.

Thank you.

We're staying in a rented house, so hopefully the owner will be able to advise us of a local vet.

Didn't know that about dog food, we'll have to see if we can smuggle that in.

We buy our dog food online and just order it to be delivered to our holiday accommodation in France.

With my insurance I have to notify them that I am taking my dog abroad before I go, also my insurance restricts how long they are out of country for.

Check your insurance as we broke down in France, whilst the insurance company found us a hotel which allowed dogs we struggled to get home as to get only a few ferries allow dogs without being on a car and very limited kennel space which was all booked. To go on tunnel we needed to be in a car but we had to drop car at hire place in France. It was an interesting few days.... so check your insurance gets you home with the dog!

Our dog always gets tics in France - lots of them so get a tic remover and ours wears a tic collar.
