Hi all,

We have two dogs - a 7 year old mixed breed and a 5 year old cockapoo. We've had them both since they were young (adopted before age 1) but not since they were tiny puppies so while we had to housetrain it was as older puppies, we've never had an issue with the 7 year old.

The cockapoo has always had issues with pooping. About 6 months after we got her she decided she didn't want to poo in the garden anymore, and exclusively went on walks. Weeing in the garden has always been fine. We had a spate of time where she always had poo accidents in the kitchen, but we finally seemed to get past this and hadn't had an accident in probably 18 months. She's recently been poorly and diagnosed with suspected pancreatitis so we've had to change her diet from raw fed back to biscuits and normal wet food, and now the accidents have reared their head again. Because she doesn't like to go in the garden, she doesn't even bother to ask to go out if she needs to go, there is literally no warning.

We were in a good routine of having an hours long walk at some point between 10:30am and 2:30pm as I also have a toddler and working the walk around her naps can be challenging. Today has been one of those days where I figured we'd walk straight after her nap but we've had an accident in the kitchen at 1pm.

Do we think this is just due to the transition from raw fed back to ordinary dog food?
Most days we walk about 10:30am but I'm sure everyone with toddlers knows that with the best will in the world sometimes you just have those mornings, do I just need to resign myself to more accidents or does anyone have any other tips we might try? I know it's not her fault but I was so happy that I thought we were past this and had a good routine in place and now due to her stomach issues we're back at square one!

Has she ever had a vet check to see if there are any physical reasons for her having so many accidents?

@coffeecupsandfairylights yeah she's been to the vets about it a lot (particularly as she's had a dodgy stomach a lot).

We've found that as long as we walk her to give her opportunity to go outside the house she's usually fine. I think it's probably just fine tuning when she needs to go now we've switched her food and walking her before that time. Possibly for her she's missing the signals too (she's never been a dog that sniffs before she goes, she will literally go from walking to squatting with no warning) so we've always wondered if she has an issue pre-empting when she needs to go. We got her at 5 months old and we don't really know what her life was like before that.

I've never in my life had a dog like her before, she's perfectly trained in every other sense, this is her only downfall 🤣
