Help having to get another job which is not home based

Hi for reasons I won't go into I am going to be moving job to a 100% wfh to a 100% working outside the home. 9-5.

New place of work a 15 minute drive. I don't earn enough for doggy day care or dog walking. Am a single parent so need to keep working. Sons (teenagers) get home mid afternoon.

Will my dogs be ok and what is the best way to manage this situation. Dogs are miniature poodles.

If you walk them before walk, can come home at lunchtime and your kids will be home mid-afternoon, I think they'll be absolutely fine.

MN has a weird idea about dogs being left alone - IRL loads of people leave their dogs all day with a dog walker/family member coming home at lunch and they manage just fine :)

Thankyou I've got myself into a state about it as I don't have much choice. And crucifying myself wasn't helping. Fortunately I live 5 mins from the beach so an easy walk at lunchtime.

I think your dogs will be fine. Lots of people do this sort of arrangement. Your dogs will just sleep when you're all out and be a bit livelier in th evening. It's a bit like the old moral panic around kids in nursery. It sounds like you have enough on your plate without worrying about being the absolute ideal dog parent too. In the real world people have jobs and... Yeah.

Also... For presepctive. I'm predominantly a home worker and mine go to daycare when I'm not. However, as my pup has got a bit older I've noticed she sleeps when I am working, and wakes up in the middle of th day when I'm free. And again after 5pm. She is a very happy dog.

I'm sure they'll be absolutely fine.

I'm a dog walker myself and the vast majority of my clients leave their dogs all day while they go to work - I come in at lunchtime, take them out for an hour and then the owners come home anywhere between 3-5pm. All the dogs manage just fine and seem perfectly happy and healthy!

Hi me again.
In a reprieve I've not had to take the full time working outside the home role....I have found and been offered a predominantly WFH option...

Ah fantastic, it all worked out in the end then 😁

Only on Mumsnet can you not leave a dog for more than 10 minutes 🙄

Our dog (21 months old) is on his own from 8am - 4:30pm. He literally sleeps for most of the day on the sofa, or stands at the window watching the traffic go by.

Aw that's fab! Probably a relief for you not to have to worry about them ☺️
