Signs of season…

I know this will vary massively for each dog but were there any tell take signs your dog was coming into season? I’m wondering whether my pup had a silent one or not! Keep thinking it’s almost here but then nothing 🤪
She has been more sleepy lately and very slightly swollen below but nothing significant. On countdown for a holiday where she will be off to home boarding eek!

If she’s swollen it’s likely soon. How old is she and how big is the breed?

Swollen minge, a bit clingy and a lot more licking of herself.

She is 10.5 months and a medium breed but on the smaller side - only about 6.5kg so far!
she seems to have eased off the licking herself now! I’ve honestly thought it was due so many times! But she’s looked a little puffy and been sleepy for about 2 weeks now!? So fingers crossed x

Do you have a back up plan if she can’t go and stay with someone or is someone coming to yours to look after her? She would have to be kept well away from any off lead dogs.
The first sign I saw first time round was a single spot of blood. Second time I knew when it would likely be due and what to look out for.

Trying to sort a back up now but most people I know who could have male dogs! We have 5.5 weeks to go so I’m praying it’s soon, she just seems to have been a little swollen for a while and nothing happening 🥺

A decent kennels will take an in-season bitch.

Mine have always had baboon arses once in season, and go through a phase beforehand of constantly peeing when on walks - about 3x as much as normal.

Honestly when it happens it is so obvious! I did the same as you with my dog, thought it must be coming up, inspected her daily (many times daily as I recall!) and then one day her bits were remarkable and I realised that it really doesn’t happen by stealth!!

To give you a contrary perspective... I think my girl's season could easily have been missed if I wasn't looking at her bits regularly. There wasn't loads of blood and the swelling was there but well-disguised by her longish fur in that area. She did have a very distinctive meaty smell which I could smell but no-one else could.

She was also super sleepy and very clingy and ate everything in sight.

Extremely clingy. Fell asleep sucking on her toys.

Absolutely massive down below, lots and lots of licking. Wouldn't leave me alone

other dogs didn’t bother with our girl
so much in her first season so that wasn’t a giveaway. Now she’s on her second one (couldn’t be spayed yet for slightly ludicrous reasons) and she does seem to be getting more attention and it seems a bit more textbook. There also wasn’t much blood (any?) or carting round the toys that you read about either time although her bits were a bit enlarged and she was more docile (high energy breed) first time, it would have been easy to miss!

Swollen bits but ours has vast quantities of floof near the foof so difficult to see standing. No blood - licked herself a lot. Got quite flirty and giggly teenager doing hair flicking at a gorgeous German Shepherd. Ran after a dog and would not come back about a week before the bits went red. I noticed a smell. Loads of weeing and also rolling. Also a few wee accidents at night time. We found the bitch off spray good. She must have smelt quite interesting even after she finished as some dogs were quite attentive.
