Is my dog ill or growing up?!

My gorgeous dog is 22 months. Had calmed down loads in the past month and is clearly coming out of his adolescent phase.
My concern is that in the evenings he always curls up on the sofa with me. This past week in the evenings he's chosen to go lay in the other room on his own. He's still very excited to go on walks and play during the day, he's eating fine, he's going toilet fine. I'm just worried because I've read if they're in pain the take them selves off. He's my first dog so I'm still learning as I go. Should I take him to get checked over at the vet or am I being overly paranoid and he's just chilling ?!

Has it been warm where you are? Has he been taking himself somewhere cooler?

stevalnamechanger · 16/05/2022 23:45

What breed ?

Echo that he could be taking off to cooler area

Does he seem well and alert

How's his eating , bowel habits ?

coffeecupsandfairylights · 17/05/2022 07:43

I suspect it's the warmer weather - mine sleeps on the floor a lot more at this time of year.

pigsDOfly · 17/05/2022 12:25

Obviously no one on here can tell you for sure what's happening with your dog but if all the other signs are fine I too would imagine he's just trying to find a cooler place to lie.

Have you had a good feel all over: paws, hips, tummy and so on to see if anything hurts.

My dog does strange things in regard to sleep from time to time. She was sleeping in her bed in the living room in the evenings during the winter but she hasn't been near the bed for about a month now.

During the night she sleeps on my bed some of the time but will get off during the night and sleep on the (carpeted) floor. During the day she will often sleep on the hard floor in the living room.

I'd just keep and eye on him and see how he goes if I were you.

Sweetleftfood · 17/05/2022 13:45

My one is older but sometimes he really craves company so comes up to bed with us and lies right between us (being very long and big) but other times he just want to chill out on his own and takes himself off to another room or the floor, I don't think it's anything to worry about if he is fine otherwise

Ilikewinter · 18/05/2022 08:15

If hes acting his normal self, eating, drinking etc then I would guess hes just growing up a bit - or agree with PP that he may be hot.

Ive got a true valcro dog and even hes took himself off to lie in the kitchen these past couple of days .

wishitwasaduvetday · 18/05/2022 22:34

His behaviour is completely normal in every other way. I think I'm worrying about nothing. He's been laying in his crate in the other room, he just came through to me unprompted, gave me a big face licking, had some fuss and took himself back off to his crate to lay down. I think my boy is just becoming a man (dog)! 😆😆

I understand, I was so insulted the first time my dog chose to sleep downstairs instead of in my bedroom! 😂

Yeah that's pretty insulting RunningFromInsanity can see why you'd take offence.

Every time I sit on the same sofa as my dog she gets up and walks to the other end as if she's trying to get as far away as possible from me. It's not just insulting but hurtful.

Some times wonder if I don't smell right 😂

Although it didn't stop her trying to sit on my head last night during the horrendous thunderstorm.
