Puppy pooping in mornings

Hi all. This might be a simple fix so forgive me if so, first puppy. Three times in the last month or so my 6 month puppy has “regressed” a bit with his house training and has pooped in the house in the mornings. He is fed at the same time every evening, 5pm, and us let out to the loo before bed at 10:30ish. Usually up about 6/6:30. Is it just a case of being caught out because I’ve not got up early enough? Do I have a bigger problem here? I’m staying calm, putting him outside when I get up even if there is poop and just cleaning it up, but I’m worried about it becoming habit. He used to squeak in the mornings when he woke up but has stopped doing that. Help me with ideas please!

He's still a baby. You can't expect him to be reliably toilet trained yet. Absolutely stay calm and just clean it up - he's not doing it to be naughty. in another month or two he will have cracked it. My puppy id say is now fully toilet trained and hes 9 months. There was one point i didn't think we would ever get there!

I'm not sure putting him outside will help in terms of training - he's already done it, so he won't make any connection between toilet = outside - it's too remote.

Thanks @Fandabulous that makes me feel a bit better! Was worried I’d done something wrong with his toilet training. Going to try and keep him out longer at last toilet time and see if he will go. Smell in the house isn’t pleasant this morning… 😷

You need to be awake when he’s awake.
My puppy sleeps in a crate by my head so I know when he’s woken up.
He does a poo first thing, as soon as he’s awake. Then another 1 or 2 within an hour of being up and having his breakfast. I just need to make sure he’s outside at the right time as they can’t hang on when small. He’s 4 months.

@Pugfostermum yeah up until recently I have been up in time. He sleeps downstairs but used to let me know he was awake. Just recently he has stopped that. Think I will set an alarm for 6am and get up then. I know he can hold it as he has been fine every other day. Just these 3 occasions for some reason and I wondered if a regression around this stage was normal.

Regression at this stage is really common so please don't panic too much!

As others have said, you probably just need to wake up a bit earlier so you can catch him and let him out before he has an accident.

It could also be that he’s unhappy about waking alone. This can often happen - secondary fear period.
I’d sleep down with him or him up with you for a bit.
