How much to pay dog sitter

Hi everyone, just looking for some points of view on what I should pay (per 24 hours) for someone to look after my dog (at their house) whilst we are on holiday. She has had him in the past while we are away but I think I might be paying too much. Thanks!

I pay £22/day

Nelliephant1 · 27/04/2022 22:40

How much is she charging. It's usually £25 per night where I am.

Is the sitter a friend or a business?

If they’re a fiend, then you discuss with them and agree how much they need for the inconvenience.

If it’s a business, then you pay their quoted rate, or find someone else - bearing in mind that you are entrusting them with a member of your family and there is usually a reason people are undercutting market rates, and it’s often not good.

I pay £25 per night and bring gin as my pooch is a little pampered princess when she's there!

Jalepenojello · 27/04/2022 22:50

You cant have dogs overnight unless you have a council licence- so I assume that they are a professional with an established charging rate,

StrawberryPot · 29/04/2022 00:30

So what are you paying op? I'd have thought maybe £50 per 24 hours would be reasonable?

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 29/04/2022 07:04

A sitter is someone who comes and stays at your home - they don't require a license. A boarder is someone who has the dog at their house and they must be licensed by the council.

I am a sitter and I charge £40 per night including sixty minutes of walks. If the client wants more walks then they have to pay my standard rate.

Boarders charge less but that's because they can have multiple dogs in their home at once and the majority also offer daycare during the day to make up the money.

I would say £25 per night is about average for boarding but it depends on your area and what's included.

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 29/04/2022 07:05

I pay £50 for 24 hours (£25 for daytime and then £25 for the overnight).

crispsandwichlife · 29/04/2022 07:41

if your dogs happy and you like the service I’d rather that. You get what you pay for

dustofneptune · 29/04/2022 09:11

I'm a dog walker and I would charge £25 p/night for boarding (in my own home), or £50 p/night for sitting (in the client's home). Most people I know charge around the same rate.
