Sudden pooping at night

We have two dogs, aged one and three. Recently the one year old (we’re 99% certain it’s him) has started pooping in the kitchen at night. This hasn’t been an issue for ages and we can’t work out a) why it’s suddenly started or b) how to stop it. He always has an afternoon walk and even if he’s had a poo outside before bedtime he’ll often go during the night too. There’s also been the occasional wee and the older dog has been once or twice too.

Any tips as to what to do? I was half tempted to set an alarm for the early hours and let them out to avoid any mess, but I was so tired last night I couldn’t bring myself to do it. We do have a camera somewhere that we keep meaning to set up so we can get an idea of time and to confirm it’s definitely the younger one.

What time is there last meal and last walk?
I’d be considering changing those to see if that helps

What time is their last meal?
Are they definitely both going to the toilet when they're let out at night?
Has their diet changed at all recently?
Are you cleaning the accidents up properly?
What time are you getting up and letting them out in the morning?
Are they 100% comfortable and happy being left alone all night?

Mine have their supper about 6.00. The puppy hasn't gone during the night since I stopped setting an alarm while he was housetraining. Try giving more food at breakfast and less at supper and consider a short walk mid-evening, rather than just letting them into the garden.

Thanks all. They eat at 5pm which tends to be after their last walk, although as the evenings get warmer we’ll probably take them out afterwards too. We always go into the garden with them so we know when he’s done something. Last trip out tends to be at around 10-10:30pm and I’m down at 6:30 most mornings. They’re definitely happy in the kitchen at night - no signs of distress.
The culprit is rarely hungry in the mornings unfortunately, so although we offer him breakfast he rarely eats it until after his morning walk.
Maybe we need to split it down to three meals to make them all smaller?
