3rd party liability insurance

Is it possible just to get 3rd party liability insurance for a dog? We have Petplan insurance at the moment but the latest annual price hike is forcing us to consider cancelling and setting aside the monthly premium into a savings account instead to cover any potential vet's fees. However I would want to still have 3rd party liability insurance and cannot seem to find a company that provides it as a stand alone. My household insurance doesn't cover it either.

I know that the £25 annual membership fee for the Dog's Trust does include 3rd party pet insurance but it is limited to £1million, which seems low (Petplan gives us £2 million cover).

Any suggestions of companies that offer 3rd party dog liability insurance?

I'v had 3rd party insurance via Dog's Trust membership for the past 6 years and it never occurred to me that £1million was low!
Cancelling the Petplan insurance for my 2 dogs was a bit of a gamble but so far it's paid off.
I check what the current premiums would be every year and pay that into a savings account. The dogs have never needed vet treatment in 6 years so have thousands in their account.

Your household insurance may well cover you - check your policy.

I’ve cancelled my insurance for my two oldies as it was extortionate. When I looked at the details of the cover it had so many exclusions, plus the £££ excess and 20% Co -payment, wasn’t viable to pay. So Ive taken the £25 Dogs Trust option

£1,000,000 is too low. If your dog caused a car accident resulting in someone needing lifetime care, just add up the horrific sums involved.

I have pet plan insurance in my dogs and they wouldn’t pay out on a third party claim ( car accident). They told me that they were insurers ‘ of last resort’ and to make a claim on my household insurance, who were surprised but payed out for the claim.

Hi, I have 3rd party liability only with Many Pets. Cost is £10.23 a year for the two years I've had it, for £3m per incident cover. Hope that helps.

I have accident only and 3rd party. So covered for say a broken leg but not an illness. Much cheaper - I am prepared to pay for any illnesses that might crop up - none as yet - my dog is a hardy thing!
