Lap spay recovery

Felixthefish · 06/04/2022 18:34

My labrador had a lap spay today. When I collected her the vet nurse doing the discharge said to have 24 hours of no walks, on lead shorter walks for the next few days then back to normal after 5 days. The leaflet she sent me home with however does't agree - it says no walks for 3 days and back to normal after 10 days. I'll ring the vets tomorrow to check but does anyone have and idea which is more likely correct?

My girl had hers done on Tuesday, we were told no walks for three day, then lead only for seven days. It's a pain really as she is completely fine, not bothering her wound, and in no pain at all. She's bouncing off the walls.
I wold be interested to see what other replies you get on this, because I thought the recover time from a lap spay was a bit shorter than ten days too.
Not that I would risk ignoring the advice....

I think advice in leaflets always is the most cautious advice you can get because it will cover all dogs of differing ages with a variety of problems. So the advice needs to be appropriate in the worse case scenario. Also leggy dogs like tend to take longer to get over the effects of the anaesthetic more than compact dogs. The face to face advice you receive from the vet will be tailored for your dog.
But this, of course, is just my opinion.

My vet said she could have a short walk after 48 hours... which we did, and she was fine. On day 4 she spotted her friend, raced around, jumped a fence and it was like she had never had anything done. I put a coat on her just to protect her shaven tum and the two tiny stitches but she was obviously full of beans and no discomfort ! (Medium 24kg dog)
