Dog had a seizure-Behaviour afterwards

Our 8yr old Border Terrier had a seizure on Friday Morning -18th, I was at work and my OH was working from home,He said he came downstairs to find him in the kitchen laid on his side drooling and kicking his legs,He could not get up-My OH went to help him and got bit on his finger.
By the time he rung me,our Dog seemed much better, after some googling we decided to adopt a wait and see approach.
These last few days he just seemed to be acting oddly and was very slow about the house and spent a lot of time in his bed-still toileting, eating and going out for walks the same as always however.
This Morning he was flinching and yelping whenever anyone went near him-our other Dog hit him with his tail and he yelped and jumped back like he was in pain, so we have taken him to the Vets.
Vets diagnosed a heart murmor and have put him on some anti seizure tablets..
He just is not our happy excitable little terrier anymore and I am worried this is him now-sleeping and being reluctant to move much!!
Has anyone been through this? any advice?
He still wags his tail and will slowly come for a stroke but just looks so miserable.

Slightly different reasons but out dog has epilepsy and when he started the anti seizure drugs, he was clumsy and sleepy until he adjusted to them.

Just a note though, when he's having a seizure, you shouldn't put your hands near his mouth. He's unconscious and he wouldn't have bitten on purpose, they chew and chatter involuntary. Our dog is usually fairly spaced out and disoriented after a seizure for a while. Have they given you rectal diazapam to use?

He's on soliphen twice a day.
It's really quite upsetting he was fine and now he's not!
There is a dog still here but it's not our litter dog anymore!

Our dog had this in the later stages of his life and very sadly was not the same again. Every seizure he had it felt a little bit of him was lost to us. I wish you all the best in finding the right help for him - and as the previous poster said get the diazepam!

@charliebear78 that sounds so horrible, really sorry about your dog. We also have a BT and I can imagine how hard it must be to see him changed, they're such special wee dogs with such big personalities.

I wondered if the vet had looked at the possibility of Spikes disease (CECS)? I don't have personal experience of it but I know of quite a few BTs that have it and I think a completely gluten free diet has helped them. Really hope your dog starts to recover soon x

Not the same, but we had a spaniel with epilepsy. It was a long time ago, but I don't remember him being any different at all between seizures. After one he would recover quickly, but would bark continuously whenever we left the house for a week afterwards and then was okay again.

He is just laid in bed and won't even move to go out..last night we put a lead on him and coaxed him out of his bed to go outside where he did do his business.
He has started growling at my partner when he goes near him..I seem to be able to get him to move but I'm at work and partner has not been able to get him to go out so far today!
Rang the vets who advised we take him off the meds for now and ring back in 24hrs.
Where is my dog? This one is not him..we are so upset.
It happened out of the blue with no warning and it has completely changed him
He seems brain damaged which sounds extreme but is the only thing I can think of to describe his behaviour.
He zones out in the middle of doing things...last night he came towards his dish for his tea and just stopped and stared into the distance for a minute or two(not like him he's straight into any food)
He also keeps twitching and whining
I'm sorry to post but I'm so upset and really wish I knew why this happened

ellebelli · 25/03/2022 11:51

Changed my name! Obviously

Unfortunately like humans seizures can cause brain damage

Though staring of into space and twitching he may be having mini seizures still

Hopefully is just the medicine
