Dog trainer costs

I've got a preliminary call booked with a trainer but the form I filled in asks about whether I am willing to financially commit during the call, which feels like a red flag to me. Am I right to be wary?

I have no idea of the costs involved - I'm interested in some one-to-one training sessions. Anyone know what I can expect?

Ask them?
I imagine they get a lot of people who want to ask lots of questions without paying for it,
If you like the trainer and they come well recommend they most likely have some kind of price list anyway?

Costs for one to one sessions vary massively. I pay £45 an hour for gundog training, but I know of pet dog trainers who charge almost double that. Some trainers will only book you for a package - have a scout about online to get some idea.

One to one training is around the £50/hr mark in my area.

Some charge more and some charge less.

Cost doesn't always correlate to quality.

If they're good, they're worth their weight in gold. If not...

I'd look for someone who's APDT qualified and failing that, IMDT

We have generally been quoted £40-80 an hour. I would say ignore qualifications and look at their previous output if looking to train the dog for a task.

I'd just say yes if you are willing to financially commit during the call. She probably has lots of timewasters!

I'd deal it be taking control of the call when it happens.

Good morning Jane, so as I said in my email I have a eleven month old cocker spaniel and I am looking for one to one training for him. Your website says you train in a field in Westwood. How much are the sessions?

Dog trainers are a complete waste of time and money. Most of it is common sense. Your better off getting advice from experienced dog owners over the local dog park or going online and getting advice there. Save your money

Jeez, dread to think what my dogs beahviour would be like if I only took advice from 'experienced' dog owners we see out and about!

£50 per hour here (NW England) and worth every flippin penny. We have done puppy classes and starting intermediate course shortly but there was a very specific behaviour which I wanted help with and didn't want to take over one of the puppy classes with my issue as it wouldn't have been fair on the others.
