Post spay behaviour and care advice

Poor DDog had her spay yesterday. She’s very quiet today and feeling sorry for herself. As to be expected.

But she’s not eating and doesn’t seem to have had much to drink. Is this normal?

Also, we have a telephone appointment tomorrow and I have to email a picture of her wound before hand. But it’s covered with a big white plaster that seems stuck fast. How do I take that off without hurting her? As a human taking a plaster off can be pretty painful so must be same for dog if it’s a sticky one.

Any advice?

Was it keyhole or normal spay? Does she have cone or surgical suit? We just had our pup spayed by keyhole and a surgical suit on. I think 2 days after the vets was closed as it was weekend and we ended up not doing the send the photo thing til 4 days after and by then the plaster had fallen off. I agree I can’t imagine I would have managed to pull a plaster off

I was a full spay. No local vets did the key hole and it was a bit pricey. I think I’ll phone Vets tomorrow if it still look stuck fast.

She’s just had a few bites to eat though so that’s a good sign Smile

Not eating doesn’t sound too good. We were told to try a spoonful at a time til she got appetite back. But it didn’t take long. It seems a little early to be trying to take the plaster off?

Sorry just seen your update. A few bites to eat now is better

KronkeyCroc · 17/03/2022 13:36

Not planning to take it off today but will have to if I am to take a pic tomorrow. But I’m not going to rip it if it’s stuck fast still.

She has a super suit so at least she doesn’t have to battle with the cone. Feel so sorry for her. Can suck to be a female whatever the species!

Ours didn't eat and drink for 48h but that's because she had a bad reaction to the anti inflammatory meds rather than the surgery. She end up with terrible colic and wouldn't even put a paw down. We were quite worried but after a pain relief injection, she recovered quickly and was back to her normal safe 3 days post surgery.

She had normal spay surgery but didn't have any plasters on her, just the suit.

Our vet said that if the plaster didn’t come off easily then to wet the edges of it. We didn’t need to in the end as it came off fairly easily and as they have been shaved you aren’t pulling any hairs which is often the ouchy bit.
