Breeder advertising more puppies

We put down a deposit on a puppy a few weeks ago. Everything checked out ok, Kennel Club registered. The house is lovely and Mum was perfect.
This is their first time breeding this breed. They mentioned they also have another breed of dog but nothing about breeding those.
DH went to message the breeder to ask for an updated picture because they’ve not sent us any since we saw puppy. Now they are also advertising puppies of the other breed too.
Should I be worried?

You’ll be able to search for the bitch and sure on kennel club

Yes you can, but do you really know if they are the bitch and sire?

Presumably you could register any old litter as that pedigree? If you were properly on the scam.

Sorry I meant sire, not sure.
I think you do all possible searches and a combination of evidence builds up one way or another.
Personally I’d be asking to go back for another look. No good breeder gets upset with an owner asking too many questions.
The breeder of my last dog only bought out boys for me, but we saw all the pups together in the whelping pen in the kitchen and the bitch was wandering around interacting with all the pups. So not being able to see where they are kept for me would be a bit of a flag- just because you only want a girl is no reason not to see the whole litter.

I bought my 2 wonderful girls from pets4homes. I was very careful. I saw dam with all puppies suckling in whelping tray in middle of lounge. 2 children about 11 and 14 clearly handled the pups a lot. We saw eye scores and hips. We have copies of both dam and sire pedagre. We met puppies 3 times before we took home on 4th visit. We were sent pupdates every week so we could see them grow. Only drawback was the girls named puppies and they both knew their names and came when called so we ended up sticking with same names. Both pups had vet health check, first vaccination and 2nd vac pre paid. Seller wanted photo of our garden and size. Wanted to know if one of us would be home all day and when I said yes I was a foster carer so home all day she asked if I could prove that. Which I did. Seller would not sell until pups were 12 weeks as she said they needed to be with dam until then. I send her a photo each year on pups birthday. She also told me if ever I changed my mind I could bring them back to her with no judgement. I got a smell blanket for each pup, lots of their puppy food, their brush too and KC registration documents and pedagree certificates. I was and am very happy with my 2 girls.

Hi, any breeder who acts in a commercial nature of selling puppies or dogs needs a home check and a licence issued by their local authority confirming good practice is taking place, if you have concerns contact the local council where the breeder is based and ask if they have a licence to breed, 👍🏻

A licence doesn’t indicate an ethical breeder. In fact it means the breeder is producing enough puppies and litters per year to be a commercial enterprise- ie a puppy farm.

Yes they have a premises check, but really all this ensures is they have adequate heat, food and water. This can be in a large whelping shed with many bitches and very little interaction with people, it’s about basic needs, not good breeding.

The information you supply is based on what factual information? Or is it opinion based? There are no thresholds if you sell puppies, the only threshold is for a hobby breeder who gives pups away or keeps them as pets. Competely agree, I imagine there are a lot of fantastic breeders who are not licensed, but licensed breeders are governed by a set of guidelines that they must adhere to and this is enforced by the local council. Unsure how standards can be assured and the welfare of the dogs to be monitored (it is against the law to breed a bitch without a 12 month gap in between the bitches last litter) through no monitoring of a breeder who sells puppies without a licence. The general public not being educated will potentially end up buying a puppy from a puppy farm.
