Day to day dog washing

My dog LOVES rolling in puddles and fox poo, never stays out of mud and I'm bathing him a lot as we've not got a warm tap outside. I am toying with one of those dog washers and getting it ready before I go out to save shampooing him too much
I won't name it but you know the one. Has anyone got any other suggestions for low cost easy dog washing that's warm ?!

Ha! After struggling with trying to carry a resisting Labrador up stairs and into the bath for a bit, I cracked and got the pump washing thingy to which you refer.

It's a thing of genius, House him down outside, he can then zoomy off the stress outside, towel down and then into the house with a Velcro towel.

I am a massive victim of Facebook advertising algorithms but these are two I've never regretted!

Tell me about Velcro towel. Is that like a dog dressing gown? We have one but the Velcro has gone non sticky though it dries well. That and towels designed for drying cars! Cheap as chips !

We have a stream in our garden so our dog goes in there when he's very muddy after a walk. We're thinking about getting a portable Mud Daddy for the car, though.
We did put a shower in our downstairs bathroom too but I try to avoid it!

Aria20 · 04/03/2022 20:06

Currently have a downstairs shower so I carry her through and shower off paws and underbelly. We are moving though and unlikely to have a downstairs shower so will prob eventually got an outside warm tap or a mud daddy!

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 04/03/2022 22:48

If he's happy rolling in filthy cold puddles he can cope with a cold hose down Wink

AwkwardPaws27 · 04/03/2022 23:11

We got our spaniel an equafleece. He stays warm & dry underneath it.
I have a vetbed in the car for him to sit on (we usually drive to woodland walks), which then cleans most of the mud off his paws too, or I use a microfibre towel on his feet.

Yes! He doesn't seem to mind wearing it. I stupidly didn't read it properly and so bought from the states which meant it took 3 weeks to arrive, but I'm fairly sure they sell them on Amazon too!
hotdogsjumpingfrogs · 04/03/2022 23:18

(I also think he looks cute in it, even though I'd rather die than become someone that puts a jumper on a dog...)

pastypirate · 04/03/2022 23:20

Equafleece and a bath mat in his crate in the car I couldn't be arsed washing him every day!

HemanOrSheRa · 04/03/2022 23:31

I bought one of those dog washers 😉. We've got 4 dogs. To be honest day to day, due to their ages and walking preferences we don't use it that much. However, I bought it to take on our first 4 dog holiday to Cornwall. It was worth the money just for that week. I filled it with warm water before we went out, the more adventurous dogs got the first shower down and bundled up in towels. Then I refilled and showered sandy legs, bellies, faces of the less adventurous Smile.

I do know dog walkers who recommend the hozelock portable shower for real stinkers Grin.

We got a hot/cold tap installed. It took a plumber less than an hour and cost £75. It seemed a more robust option than a portable drier and it never runs out.

We hose the mud off and the use a blaster drier to get most of the wet off before they come in.

I can dry a giant in 15mins from soaking to bone dry but most of the time I can’t be bothered so just get them dry enough that they don’t stink! It also blasts off any remaining mud, loose fur, undercoat and random sticks etc that have been collected so it’s minimised mess massively. I think a short coat breed would be dry very quickly!

MissyB1 · 05/03/2022 07:20

Our schnauzer is a nightmare in mud and she loves fox poo too! Her fur is like Velcro everything gets stuck in it.
We bought the mud daddy - sorry just decided to name it! Anyway it’s been amazing, it has saved a lot of work.

Aria20 · 05/03/2022 07:20

@Leonberger can any plumber do a hot outdoor tap and it's easy to do? I was expecting it to be more expensive!

User76745333 · 05/03/2022 07:25

Cost for an outside hot water tap will depend on how close it is to your water feed.

We have just put one in and are using it with an old stone sink on the porch

Simonjt · 05/03/2022 07:27

We have a Shiba Inu, so very hairy, on dirty walks he wears an equafleece, if I’ve not got the baby I carry him up to the flat and rinse him with just water in the bath. If I’ve got the baby I leave a bucket of water and two fluffy mit things in it, its enough to get him clean afterwards.

Leonberger · 05/03/2022 08:33

We have a downstairs utility so it wasn’t far to run it, it seemed very simple to do! We have connected it to a short hose to get the worst of the mud off before drying. Randomly 2 of the dogs prefer the cold water but my hands don’t!

Ribenery · 05/03/2022 08:53

We have the hozelock one - for a v hairy and constantly muddy spaniel

We have had to ration shampoo use because it's not been good for his skin/fur so we try and use shampoo as little as possible

Aria20 · 05/03/2022 10:57

@Leonberger that's great info for me to think about when we move... I'm hoping for a utility that will have easy access to do a hot tap then. Mine does not like cold water she's a princess lol!

Helenluvsrob · 05/03/2022 13:47

We had a hot tap put on the utility ehrn the kitchen was done. Not used it yet

Corporatefilterneeded · 05/03/2022 21:06

@fairylightsandwaxmelts yes you're probably right but he's my baby. I feel like he needs warm water Grin
