I am picking up new pup for his vaccinations on Thursday, have to take him back for a week then we get him a week Friday. I am feeling so impatient but also having flashbacks to those early puppy days so perhaps I want the time to go slowly so i can stock up on sleep haha.

I have never had 2 dogs together, does anyone have any tips at all. Pugpup is super friendly with dogs and just loves having people/dogs around so I'm not too concerned but just wondered if anyone has any top tips that worked well for them.

Latest pic of new pup, he was 7 weeks old here, he's a huge ball of fluff!

What a gorgeous pup!!

FawkesPup is gonna be having a dull week as I have Covid. Thankfully we live rurally so we can have dull walks on our own but no classes or walks with buddies for a few days.

PugInTheHouse · 28/03/2022 21:51

Ah bless him, we had the same last year but pugpup went out with the walker for some long walks that week, he was going crazy. The rules were stricter then of course, we are in the city also so always busy.

MsAwesomeDragon · 28/03/2022 22:21

Sorry you've got covid guyfawkesday. I hope you don't feel too bad.

That puppy is absolutely gorgeous!!!

We're trying to get into agility training, but the place hasn't got back to us yet. AwesomePup loves going through tunnels but he's too big for the kids tunnel we've got now. I might see if I can get some actual dog agility equipment for the garden. Then DD can try training him to do some when it's just the 2 of them at home.

PugInTheHouse · 28/03/2022 22:26

I want to take pugpup to agility training, the gundog school near us do it. This is Cookie the pug doing agility at crafts, so funny

ilovesushi · 29/03/2022 08:10

@PugInTheHouse the new pup is adorable! He/ she's going to be HUGE! I would love a second dog, but I don't think the cats would ever forgive me.

Love that pug doing agility! It absolutely flies around the course. I am in awe!

PugInTheHouse · 29/03/2022 08:15

@ilovesushi I think he's gonna be huge. Pugpup will think he's the biggest though Grin I am not sure the cats will be that impressed, they tolerate pugpup but we plan to do a lot more work with the trainer with them all. They are fine, they just don't socialise much with pugpup.

I know, very cute and impressive. Pugs can be pretty fast, I definitely want to give it a go, mine will love it I reckon. It makes me laugh the way he flies over the hurdles, it's almost slow motion as he's in the air Grin

IsThatAPuppy · 29/03/2022 12:29

Wow look at that pug go! You're going to have your hands full with two Pug I'm already wondering what I was thinking 10 days into pup one Grin

Some things seem to be improving already (sleep is definitely better than the first few nights, he's happy with the crate) But the biting Shock

abeanbaked · 29/03/2022 12:45

@PugInTheHouse aww he is lovely! Good luck with two of them, will be like having two toddlers Grin I'm sure they will be best of friends.

Apart from the golden git still being completely obsessed with birds, we have made some progress with loose lead walking, recall and sitting for cars. She's two next month. I thought she would be better by this age 🤦🏼‍♀️

PugInTheHouse · 29/03/2022 12:53

@IsThatAPuppy I think I have blocked out the early days from my memory Grin The biting is awful isn't it, we were lucky as pugpup slept early on, it was a little way in when he didn't need a wee so often so would sleep 830pm till 530pm which was way too early for me to get up! I am dreading sleepless nights.

@abeanbaked I know, I need to stock up on wine I think. The big mistake I made with pugpup was only taking 1 day off work, I have got 2 weeks off this time so hopefully will keep me slightly more sane!

Aria20 · 29/03/2022 14:16

@GuyFawkesDay I've just tested positive for covid too! Don't feel too bad just very tired and sore throat/sinusy. Dog has just slept on my feet all day so far not even looked for a walk so maybe she's not feeling great either?! She'll prob be a pain in the bum later though!

Blahblahblah40 · 29/03/2022 14:58

Not been on for ages. Hope you are all well (pups included). Newbies are all looking very cute!

Blahpup doing a bit better these days but has started barking etc when I leave again. Thought I had cracked it the last 3-4 weeks and now back to square one. Also barking at and pulling to get to other dogs. Even cheese or sausages won’t stop him! It’s not an angry bark, he just REALLY wants to play with them and you can see the other dogs just looking at him like he is crazy… I mean do you do with that?!?!

GuyFawkesDay · 29/03/2022 19:11

Yep, tired and bunged up. Head feels very full.
Though TbH it's not too bad. I managed to walk FawkesPup over the fields earlier. Flagging a bit now though.

Luckily for him, FawkesPup has been well behaved today.

We went for a short walk with a friend's 15 week old cockerpoo this evening. So well behaved, never straying more than a couple of metres and doing lots of nice sits for treats. Just about managed to get our teenager to sit for a photo at the end.

Hi everyone, just checking in. I try not to post too much here now I have an 18 month old but I miss the support. I also had puppy broodiness this week so please do put me off as I clear have the rose tinted glasses on and we are definitely not ready for another!

TerrorPup is continuing to generally do well. She had a really bad day last week where she would not settle at all during my work day, but generally the rest of the days she literally just sleeps until lunch, then again until I finish. Today she's a bit more unsettled again but happy to chew, I think we've got another ear infection which is bothering her. Though the lovely darling has just decided to play with her water bowl and carry it around for the first time ever. And it wasn't empty. Her lead walks is generally great unless she has seen something furry, is on the way to daycare or needs a 💩. Our main issues remain recall and separation anxiety.

On recall, she's pretty excellent on her long line but her prey drive is strong and she loses her head quite easily and goes into zoom mode. I need to work up courage to drop it more! Often she sticks pretty close to my heel whilst on the long line so eventually would like to lose it.

Separation Anxiety is slow progress. Very glad the weather has warmed up! We are seeing a real difference but obviously she can only be left for a very small amount of time so in terms of our life we still take her everywhere or pay for a sitter.

PugInTheHouse · 30/03/2022 13:32

@TerrierOrTerror we are at 18 months also, new pup arrives next Friday Grin The real nerves are kicking in now, I am wondering what on earth I have done.

We have issues with separation anxiety however things seem to be improving lately. With new pup we will leave him from very early on and also take pugpup with us so new pup is completely alone. We will then work from there. We have someone working with us to sort it.

Blahblahblah40 · 30/03/2022 13:47

@TerrierOrTerror you and @PugInTheHouse should have an adolescent support thread going!

You’re posts are always helpful though. It’s good to hear about the progress people make and the tips they can give. When you’re in the thick of it any bit of advice helps. I’ve been drowning in work, unwell mother and DC demands of late and I’m really struggling to carve out proper time for Blahpup that isn’t last thing at night. Doing lots of focus training and basic commands out on his walks because I don’t want to lose that and as much in the house/garden as I can. But gosh it’s blooming hard when you’re the only adult.

Blahblahblah40 · 30/03/2022 13:47

*your posts 🙄

PugInTheHouse · 30/03/2022 14:01

@Blahblahblah40 I have been there, I felt like pugpup was going backwards when I was under pressure elsewhere, also DH is not as good with commands so he gets away with stuff I wouldn't allow, it must be really difficult with only 1 adult in the house. I will be tearing my hair out with a new pup and an adolescent soon Grin

I have kept up with the commands etc on walks even now, I try to talk to him constantly to remind him of what he should be doing in the hope it'll eventually go in. His reactions to bikes and scooters are still an issue but if I focus him he's fine. Unfortunately he's just one of those dogs who is a bit highly strung and gets over excited so we have to get him to focus on us a lot.

Blahblahblah40 · 30/03/2022 14:09

Yeah it’s pretty relentless @PugInTheHouse. Starting to wonder if another baby would’ve been a better idea, least you know what you’re doing 2nd time around! 😂

Yeah that’s the difficulty I have atm with some things. Blahpup is ‘demand barking’ now and I am ignoring it, but parents, partner etc all acknowledge with a “quiet” etc. Its hard to get the consistency everywhere he goes without losing it at them. He’s not their dog at the end of the day so they’re not as invested. One positive thing that’s happened recently is he is now quiet in the boot of the car when travelling. That has made some parts of life a little easier. I’m wondering (and partly hoping) if a lot of his issues will resolve with age.

PugInTheHouse · 30/03/2022 14:13

@Blahblahblah40 a lot of things do calm down with age, I never thought we'd see a time where it would be easy to have him in the car, he's definitely calmer with other dogs now. I am hoping there are more things that will settle in the next year.

Blahblahblah40 · 30/03/2022 14:33

That gives me a lot of hope @PugInTheHouse

Aria20 · 30/03/2022 16:26

@Blahblahblah40 I get demand barking too! Drives me crazy sometimes as she has a shrill bark that goes right through you! I don't mind a bark to go out to the toilet or to tell me someone's at the door etc but just staring at me and barking for attention is stressful when trying to work! I can ignore it if I'm home alone but if DH or kids are home it's so much harder to ignore... so I end up either saying quiet or getting her something to shut her up so she basically gets rewarded for it which I know is totally the wrong thing!

Blahblahblah40 · 30/03/2022 17:22

It’s horrid isn’t it @Aria20. No matter how much you ignore it’s like having a tantruming toddler right in your ear. Blahpup was back at his mums today while I was at work and he tried the demand bark with her.. soon got put in his place supposedly! 😂 maybe exactly what he needed?!

Was feeling very proud of him this afternoon though. He met 2 dogs and didn’t bark at either of them. Also saw 2 of his favourite people at school pick up and he was quiet with them too. Engaged with his focus on me etc for some cheese. It was honestly like walking a different dog. Exactly how I imagined life to be… no doubt be back to an absolute rotter tomorrow 😂

tizwozliz · 31/03/2022 09:53

Snowing here today, pup seems oblivious to the sudden change in the weather but I'm not enjoying it. Purposely chose a walk where she could be off lead the whole way this morning so I could keep my hands in my pockets!
