Keeping back car seat clean from small muddy dog

I just wondered what others do! Our ddog travels in the main bit of the car and has a seatbelt; I keep finding she makes it so muddy and hairy.
We are having the car cleaned properly next week so I’m wondering whether to look in Halfords or is a simple blanket across the back seat going to fit almost better?
I did get a front seat cover from Halfords but no one really likes it so it’s in a shed . But it’s an option too. Car seats are fabric and hard to wash as really absorbent.

Focusing on rather small stuff while world news looks worrying 😟

I have a microfibre towel in the back seat but you can also get dog seat cover things that cover the back of the seat as well as the base. My dog isn't that hairy tho.

You can get a car seat hammock which covers the back seat and attaches to the headrests. They normally have an opening so you can still access the seat belt to plug in.

This is what we have, it’s plastic so stops and mud going on car seats. Not my dog, but it’s from Amazon.

We have a fabric travel crate on the back seat - originally for safety because our dog is just not the right shape for a seatbelt to work well, but we realised that it's great for containing the mud etc. We have an old towel underneath it/over the side edge of the seat, and it's just the right size to have an old pillow in it as a cushion so it's really cosy for him.

I've got a car seat cover.

Stray mud gets tackled with the bissell spot cleaner

You can get all sorts of covers for the backseat, just look it up. I use one which doesn't cover the footwells but attaches to the headrests and allows the seat belts through.

We have a cover that hooks over the back head rests and also covers the seat and footwell. Usually put a towel on it too and try and towel her off before she gets in the car. We do a lot of towel washing.

We bought a good car seat cover from Amazon, it was only about £16. It has holes for the seat belt Fixings to poke through for attaching the harness and just attaches over the headrests.

It was a rhino automotive brand, heavy duty quilted one.

We also have one of the ‘hammock’ type seat covers , it has a hole for his seat belt and is easy to unhook from the front headrests when you want an actual person in the back .

I have a seat cover that I bought from Sainsbury's petrol station for about £7. It was money well spent and is easily removed when you have human passengers.

An eqifleece helps too

I'm a dog walker and use a doggy hammock.

But be warned they're not foolproof - when the dog jumps in/out they will get mucky paws on the edges of the seat Grin You could always tuck towels on the seat before putting the hammock on, though.

I use a pet-safe upholstery cleaner on my car once a week or so as well.

rainbowandglitter · 24/02/2022 15:53

Ours go in a crate in the boot.

muckandnettles · 24/02/2022 15:57

We have a hammock type back seat cover, plus ddog goes in a huge zip up towelling bag when he is really wet and muddy.

I use a single duvet spread on the back seat. A couple of duvet covers to alternate in the wash. They love to snuggle down into it.
