Is there any training benefit or other benefit to letting your dog accept treats from random strangers or acquaintances?

I always say “no I don’t allow her to have treats from other people” and luckily almost everyone ask first (only had one or two who have given treat before I noticed what was happening). I notice that some dog walkers seem to think this is a general friendly gesture. But I tend to think it confusing for the dog as she is more likely to approach strangers on the off chance she will receive a treat from them. Am I missing something?

Nope only negatives.

I want my dog to know that all the good things come from me and focus on me.

Thanks. That’s what I thought

No.

I don't ever feed other people's dogs because too many of them approach me, find the treat pocket and attempt to mug me for them.

If the dog in question has a tendency towards resource guarding it can also inadvertently start a scrap.

I find it an odd thing to do as well
I have only had it happen once and I should have said no but I was taken by surprise and didn't want to be rude. I will say no if it ever happens again as the last thing I need is him learning to mug strangers for treats
I did have one spaniel bound up and start jumping all over me because he had seen/ smelt that I was giving my own dog training treats. I didn't give him any and the owner was grateful as she is trying to stop him but people undermine it.

Yes I often think people maybe think I am a bit uptight saying she isn’t allowed!

My dog has allergies (and is a fussy boy) he’s spat treats out in the past but I’ve never liked them taking things from others they are practising a behaviour so it’s not good imo
And embarrassing if your fussy dog spits the not so nice treats out in front of them.

Can be very annoying and it's a big thing in our park and they are only friendly and lovely but my dog now recognise the ones who give treats and will bolt if he sees them. I don't give to other dogs either

No benefits, no. People mean well, but I've never let my own ddog accept treats from others (except at my DMs when shes good, that kind of thing). She has special food from the vets which is a great way of politely declining without sounding rude, which I wish used when she was younger!

I'm wary of letting anyone feed then for quite paranoid reasons tbh. Not everyone likes dogs or has good motives.

No! I agree that it encourages them to approach people.
