Just that really, my 3 yr old Spaniel’s policy is due for renewal (Petplan) - £641. First dog so a bit clueless and was wondering what others pay before i renew

I pay £110 per month for 3x dog multi policy with bought by many. It’s only 3k cover though sadly, any more was astronomical Blush

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 15/02/2022 18:32

£37 per month for a four year old beagle with Tesco.

That's with 15k cover on their best lifetime policy.

BiteyShark · 15/02/2022 18:37

Just under £60 a month. Petplan 5 yr old spaniel for £4K cover.

AwkwardPaws27 · 15/02/2022 18:40

About £46 a month, 1 year old cocker spaniel, on a Fixed for Life policy (the premium never rises) with Bought By Many, with a £20k lifetime cap. I think they have now stopped selling the product, I have the younger cat on it too.

In hindsight I probably should have taken out something that had an unlimited lifetime amount, with £7k+ renewing yearly, but I was stung in the past by escalating premiums so prioritised having a fixed cost.

He's used up over £6k in the last 7 months (he developed immune mediated polyarthitis at just 9 months old) hence thinking I should have thought more about the lifetime cap.

My dog is 3 years old and I pay £250 per year for a lifetime policy, medium cover with Emporium Insurance. I do pay into a savings account each month to top up if required.

Mayblossominapril · 15/02/2022 18:47

Nothing. I don’t bother with dog or cat insurance. The worst bill I have had was £600. I know broken legs etc cost between £1500 & 2000. So either save the insurance amount per month or stick it on a 0% credit card

bettertocryinamercedes · 15/02/2022 18:47

It's about £36 a month for a six yo Romanian rescue. It used to be way cheaper but then we had a 7k claim!

EdithStourton · 15/02/2022 23:07

We have enough in the bank if there is a crisis, and don't have insurance.

The two dogs we have so far owned from puppyhood to death probably racked up a total of a couple of grand that would have been covered by insurance.

They both lived into their teens, and I can't imagine what they would have cost to insure for their entire lives.

Girlintheframe · 16/02/2022 05:32

£45 per month for 3 yr old SWD, gives £15k cover

Tiredmum12389 · 16/02/2022 19:54

The fixed for life plan sounds amazing. We had a dog before and he ended up costing a fortune ever month. If I could get a fixed for life policy I would love another dog.

FizzyTango · 16/02/2022 22:29

Problem is you can’t really change insurance…unless you have never claimed and therefore have no or existing conditions?
I pay £75 per month with pet plan -3 year old shepherd. But he has numerous health issues so I’m very grateful he’s insured it’s been worth it.

TheSongAboutMe · 16/02/2022 22:43

£70 a month ish but that’s for 2 dogs, £7500 cover each. One of them had a very serious health issue a couple of years ago that totalled almost £12k and the other had an issue that cost £5k so the premium increased after that.

RunningFromInsanity · 16/02/2022 23:11

£33 per month with RSPCA.
Would also recommend PetProtect

Afternoonteaandicecream · 16/02/2022 23:31

Just to add to what fizzytango said, even if you haven't claimed before you still run the risk of having things excluded from your next policy if any kind of health issue has been mentioned in the vets notes during a booster for example or you have been in for a tummy upset that didn't go over your excess this could mean any other gastric issues would be excluded under a new policy. Doesn't matter if you haven't claimed for these they would still count as pre existing conditions. So you have to be really careful if changing policy. I'm a vet nurse and have seen people change policies many times and then not realise that they will not covered and they end up with a big bill ☹️.

muddyford · 18/02/2022 19:52

Just started with Bought by Many. £450 p.a., £15k vet fees, £130 excess(I think). They do cover pre-existing conditions If you need it and if the claim was two years ago or more, they don't take it into account. So more like human health insurance.
