Cost of Neutering

I was wondering what the variations in cost are.
DDog is 7kg or thereabouts and it's £170, which includes a post op check.

We're in the NW.

Southwest here, £250 for a 15 month old medium size (19kg) bitch, includes follow up appointment and ‘baby grow’.

Our male beagle was 17kg and it cost me just under £120.

Probably not worth comparing female neutering as think it's a lot more expensive generally

moredogsthansense · 14/02/2022 20:15

You need to specify whether you mean neutering a male oe female, as the latter surgery is more complicated and expensive. Also check whether the cost includes post op pain relief as standard., which these days it should l

We were £160 for our male and he was about 15kg at the time. That was everything including his metcam for after and buster collar. I'm in Scotland

BGJO · 14/02/2022 21:09

Thought neutering referred to a male & spaying female.

To clarify, ddog is male!

My dog is 6kg and it was 160 with pain killers and the cone. Also a check up a few days later.

How did you all keep them quiet and still for 7 days afterwards?

We didn't do anything.

He slept for about 24h and then we just kept him on lead walks for a week but otherwise everything was normal.

If you live anywhere near Manchester Dogs home they do it at a subsidised cost, I think it's about £50 ish so a big saving if you can get in there. Have a look on the website.

I was trying to get hold of MDH but the vet only works on a Thursday and I needed to speak to her before I could book him in as they've never castrated a dog who's been chemically castrated before.

Is it means tested? I'm about 30 miles away from them so not sure we're close enough

I don't think it's means tested as we just rang and booked on if dog in, no questions asked.
We lived nearer than 30 miles away but I think the reason they offer if at a low cost is just to encourage people to get their pets neutered/spayed. It was a long time ago when we used them (12 years) but we just had to drop the dog off at 9 and we collected him at about 4. He was fine, slept all evening and didn't seem to even notice the next day.
