Dog Food

Hi, the vet has recommended I change my dogs food as he says bakers is shit

She normally has a small bowl of bakers in the morning, then same in the evening with some butchers gentle meat

He said the dry and wet food has to contain the same proteins or something 🤷🏼‍♀️

Can anyone recommend a good dog food that I can buy in sainsburys? Or Aldi/Lidl
I can't afford ridiculously expensive stuff and can't be going to pets at home every week

I'd look at ratings on www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk

Ring back and find out what is meant by 'the same proteins or something' - it's not terribly clear what sort of diet your vet is recommending.

In the short term, try Chappie - v cheap and a perfectly good (tinned) food. Do you really need both wet and dry?

dementedpixie · 12/02/2022 21:55

Harringtons or Wagg maybe. They aren't too expensive but have meat as the first ingredient

Figgygal · 12/02/2022 22:01

We use harringtons
Get it from morrisons on the weekly shop delivery no need for pets at home

Juanbablo · 12/02/2022 22:04

Ours has Barking Heads small breed chicken. It's a dry food and the only one he will eat.

TomAllenWife · 12/02/2022 22:11

I had looked at harrimgtons today actually

I suppose she can just have dry food, but she seems to really love that little bit of meat in the evening

I have never heard of dry/wet needing to be he same, nothing wrong with Butchers tins IMO. We mix dry/wet and its different brands.

BiteyShark · 13/02/2022 06:28

I have we never heard the mixing of proteins issue either.

Mine is on wet and now eats mostly butchers and we swop flavours each day with no issues.

I have fed mine very expensive foods previously but ironically he has decided he now prefers Butchers which my pocket is grateful for.

I have used allaboutdogfood website to list foods in quality and price as a guide to what to try.

Harrington's do wet trays, much better than Bakers.
Pets at Home have Wainwrights, Arden Grange is decent too and not hugely expensive.

Would you be happy to get it delivered?

I get a mixture of Wolf of Wilderness dry and Lukullus wet from Zooplus.co.uk

As mentioned above www.allaboutdogfood.co.uk is an excellent resource

My old dog could only stomach Aldi dry with Butchers tinned. He lived to a ridiculously ripe old age.
New girl is on Chudleys. She is very delicate although you wouldn't know it to look at her. We buy a sack every 6 weeks from a big pet food store (we also stock up on dried ears, tails, rolls and god knows what else)
Bakers is awful. Deffo avoid.
