Do you have an influx of 6month ish dog ads in your area?

Was on gumtree today and noticed the number of "dog for sale" ads for dogs aged anything from 16 weeks to 1.5 years - all priced circa £600+ with more 'trendy' breeds at about £1.5-£2k.

It was quite saddening reading some of the blurbs, "bought for £3k, looking to get half back" as if ddog is a piece of furniture, "work commitments forces sale" - particularly for beagles - I love beagles but know I have no where near enough time for one given the amount of exercise they need, my ddog wouldn't keep up!

Our local rescue doesn't seem to have many dogs at the moment - it seems like folk aren't putting their dog to a rescue when they can no longer look after it, instead they're trying to get their money back.

With the probable oversupply of puppies now that things aren't locked down any more what will happen to all these teenage dogs bought in lockdown that owners are now trying to sell on? Will the rescue centres eventually become full if people can't sell on their dogs?

I haven't noticed this but I don't think they'll get 2k for adolescent dogs. People who have trained their dogs well will have good dogs they care about. You can almost guarantee these dogs that are for sale will have been neglected or badly trained. They need rescued by someone willing to put some effort in. By asking for 2k their owners seem to think that they will be doing somebody a favour by letting them have a dog that has probably not had a lot of anybody's time in its first informative year. Not the dog's fault but any good home taking a dog like this will be doing the owner and the dog a big favour and getting them both out of a mess. £2k for the pleasure 😆.

£2k for the pleasure indeed! Yes that was my thoughts too - one post came up in my feed for an 8th month old dog and out of curiosity looked at the other dogs for sale.

The prices are more than we paid for our ddog from our breeder. We had a clause that if we could no longer look after ddog, she's to go back to the breeder, not sell her on.

I wonder how many folk would buy an adolescent dog for £££ that may have a host of bad training problems associated with it. Poor dogs Sad

It's just sad the way a lot of the posts are worded. "reduced for quick sale" etc just grim when thinking it's a dog for sale
