Cannot keep puppy entertained... at my wits end !

I have a 5 month old whippet puppy.. she is driving me insane. I know this is a compulsory part of puppy ownership but ... if she is not asleep or on a walk she is just into and onto everything. She steals anything and everything just to get a reaction, I cannot move any more stuff out of her reach. She unzips and goes through the kids school bags she takes books off the bookshelf she clears the piles of paperwork, she steals laundry from racks and baskets.. She likes chewing what she steals but mostly she likes stealing it for attention. She has chews, toys, puzzles, kongs , snuffle mats etc.. but she just wants attention ALL the time. She hangs off my legs, she grabs my clothes. I ignore, I turn away but I do have to move and do stuff. She has stair gates she is shut behind and she howls and protest wees. We have done gradually increasing the time etc. At night she is great. She is crate trained and sleeps through with no accudents. We use the crate in the day successfully when we know she needs naps but she won't give in, when she is tired we pop her in with a kong and she passes out in about 2 minutes. She has 3 walks a day 20 -30 mins each and frequent runs in the very big garden.. someone is in most of the day every day. If we go out she goes in her crate and we time her walks to make sure she is ready for a rest. I know she is settled as I set up an alexa camera thing i can check when we are out ! I am literally paralysed by her .. I can do nothing as she is hanging off me or climbing on things and stealing.. what do I do ????? When she is not being a total bugger she is utterly gorgeous.

Really good book for training tips is mission control.
Do a bit of clicker training, and all the usual stuff
Make it fun but so she has to focus

As others have said it gets sooooo much easier as they get older Grin

She is gorgeous Halo

Not a whippet, but our gigantic lurcher was a completely insane kleptomaniac puppy (he still takes shoes, doesn’t chew them, just likes to cuddle them), but now he is 18 months and has spent the last 3 weeks sleeping on the sofa with his legs in the air with no walks because he cut his paw pad very badly. He has been no bother at all, he has barely moved! They do suddenly calm down, it is just waiting it out in my experience.
I found with walks if he does lots of zooming and playing he is far more wired in the house afterwards. If he stays on a long lead and we go slow and sniffy he is far more chilled out, I would really recommend giving it a go.

Op I sympathise with you I really do . I was in the same situation as you and I was so depressed with it all . I felt like my life was just the dog and nothing else . I counsnt even have time to do makeup because he would not go in a crate . He's 10 months old now and he still is my shadow but it does get so much easier . Just wanted to say you are not alone ❤️

Thank you for the tips and solidarity ! We just got back from a 15 min sniffy walk which would take me about 4 mins. She went utterly stupid on return so back in her crate for a snooze.
