Elderly dog - constant upset tummy

Hello,

We have an appointment with the vets but just looking for information and advice.
Our elderly dog has always had a bit of a funny tummy, she has suffered with bad food allergies all her life. However recently maybe over the last 2 months or so we are noticing that she is regularly having a upset tummy. Same thing tends to happen, shaking, low moaning sounds, panting, refusing food, then she will have the runs maybe be sick. She is also now straining a lot for a poo but nothing comes out apart from some small droplets of watery substance. As far as we know - everyone knows about her allergies - she isnt getting anything she shouldnt. She tends to have on lead walks now with her been older and just liking a potter around the streets so she isnt picking anything up on the streets....any ideas or advice with this one?
Thanks in advance

My old lurcher was like this, thngs that helped initially were feeding a specialised diet, feeding a probiotic and using pro kolin and oralade during an attack. Antibiotics and pain relief were essential. She did eventually deteriorate and we made the decision to let her go as we felt she was too old for lots of testing and began to suffer as it was almost continuous at the end. Hopefully a better outcome for your girl.

Thank you for replying. I will look in to everything you have suggested.
Sorry to hear about your girl x

Thanks user, we miss her dreadfully, I've just remembered that she did well on tinned chappie food too as others seemed too rich for her.

I've just got back from the vets - she has to have bloods and a urine sample.
Typically she has perked up and had a bit to eat.
I'll have a look at chappie...its very difficult with her allergies.

I’m having the same with my girl. She has hyperplastic gastritis. She has a mix of gastrointestinal food (royal canin wet) and homemade chicken and rice blitzed in the food processor. She must stick to a very low fat diet.
She also has omeprazole daily. It works to an extent, but this condition isn’t curable so we are managing things as best we can.
Sadly she is having a v bad day today. 😔

Our boy turns 18 this year, he gets bouts of bad tummy, maybe once every 6 months or so now (was far more often).

He has dried dog biscuits for breakfast, and cooked dinner for dinner (whatever we have, plus basa, salmon, or tuna - we are vegan so this supplements his diet)- if his tummy is bad, we give him scrambled egg (drop of oat milk and no salt) - it seems to help a lot. Brocolli (cooked) also seems to help him.

We also give him 'Extend' sachets daily, which helps with any pain/discomfort.

@sprayedwithdettol sorry to hear your having a difficult day. I will have a look at the condition you have mentioned. How was that diagnosed?

@fluffeverywhere thank you, I will chat with the vet about diet more closely too.
